Yeah, Rachael Ray’s 30 Minute Meals are an absolute NIGHTMARE for these two! It’s all just WAY too much trouble! It’s a wonder they ever even heat up the cooker for Stouffer’s!

Let’s face it, Joy barely has time between eating her after-lunch HoHo’s and her before dinner Ding Dongs to put a Stouffer’s frozen dinner into the oven. Jeesh! What’s Burl expect anyway?

Ah, Spam. One of my earlier memories was right after the war when my neighbor Fred W. came home. He had been in the SeaBees in Italy. His wife fixed a special dinner for him using a new meat product that only recently had become available on the civilian market. He roared and threw it out the window. We could hear him all over the neighborhood. It was Spam and he had been eating it non-stop since ’42.I still love it although it drives my cardiologist crazy.

Joy won’t buy frozen food that has to go in the actual oven….. way too slow. Her favorite lasagne recipe involves peeling the plastic film back from one corner before nuking….But that takes too long, so she slits it with a knife.

It also says to let the hot lasagne sit for 20 minutes before serving….But she figured out that if you microwave it for 15 minutes instead of 25, you can eat it right away.

She’s going to ask Marlene to type up her version, for possible inclusion in the Crustwood Art and Garden Center Community Cookbook.

She’s not a member, so she has to forge Betty Ann Finkle’s signature on it….

But imagine the thrill of seeing her assumed name in print!

Weell, I think everyone’s got all the bases covered, as usual. But I will say this. I will not eat spam….or Ho-Ho’s….or Ding-Dongs or any of those other former Hostess products.

Looks like that time consuming recipe simply adds chopping celery to making boxed mac-n-cheez. Oh wait, now there’s micro mac…what was I thinking?

Just go ahead and take a frozen dinner out of the freezer and cook it. That is what you always do. Go for it.

I don’t watch many cooking shows (except the amusing ones like Top Chef, America’s Worst and Chopped) but I do like any with Alton Brown (his food knowledge is phenominal) and Giada (she has many simple Italianate foods that aren’t too unhealthy).

Burl doesn’t care about new recipies, he just can’t take anymore of what she has been preparing. Remember, with Burl there is always an ulterior slam in every suggestion.

When we were first married., I would bake spam with pineapple and brown sugar, now the thought makes my arteries clog up!. So many women are like them, no idea how to cook and no time to learn. Such a shame. Women like Dazz and I are the execption. Just watch “the worst cooks in America” on the food channel, I’m dumbfounded at someone who can burn water! (it happened)

The science of nutrition is still progressing (and has a long way to go), but the Pennys are too typical. I agree w/2old2read on that. The manufacturers also purposely deceive people making claims that while true in a limited way, simply gloss over all the ingredients added that are really unhealthy. I saw a Chex add just moments ago where they stress “gluten free” and never a word about the tons of excess sugar and salt in the product. I no longer am buying ang manufactured food (except for tomato paste and cooked without any added salt I even cook my own beans from dry and am now using potassium salt with bay leaves for the basic cook (before making into chili, bean salad or such).
