I like the million mile Rolls on the blog. I know from having been a valet car parker that they do, in fact, still make them like that.

The first time you ever open the door of a Rolls Royce, it’s a trippy experience, because you realize the door mechanism has all these extra parts which are there just to ensure smooth operation.

The door of a Rolls doesn’t just open; it glides open, gracefully, and without abruptness. A normal car door seems almost violent by comparison.

Actually, no, they don’t make them like that any more. Rolls Royce is now owned by BMW, and the modern Rolls-Royce is mostly German. Has been for the last fifteen years. Even before that, the legendary Rolls-Royce build quality was mostly that – legendary. Once upon a time, that was probably not the case, but in the 80’s or 90’s, it certainly was.

Oh, and as far as high mileage goes, the current record holder is a Volvo owned by a man in New York (not the city), which has almost 3 million miles on it. There are many other cars with over a million miles.

My brother’s favorite “sandwich” for years was peanut butter and kosher dill pickle, rolled up in a tortilla.

Who was this “Jack Bunny” of whom you speak, as though to confuse us with misdirected thoughts of Jack Benny? Some lagomorph identity thief? I say to thee, bunny, you’re no hat. I have many hats, and you’re none of them.

As soon as I heard the very similar statements in the political debate that perhaps inspired today’s comic, I had the perfect response (and I was glad the not all that bright target of them wasn’t able to come up with it).“And you’re no LBJ. Now let’s get back to the issues.”

♬ Del Monte PicklesCool and green and crunchyPut a pickle on your shopping listDel Monte pickles are pickle-barrel crisp! ♬

Growing up in New York in the 50’s gave one the opportunity to walk into delis with sawdust on the floor and extract a giant kosher dill from the barrel with tongs. Unbeatable.

I knew a Jack Ass once. Fortunately he has left this world and we are all better for it.

My wife and I make our own pickles; small gherkins and dilly beans. I also make jalapeño jelly which is terrific. I fry an egg and some Virginia ham and place it on my homemade bread along with some of the jalapeño jam and it makes a tasty sandwich. Our dill pickles have a nice crunch to them.

Mayonnaise with mustard and Louisiana hot sauce mixed in makes a nifty garnish. Try it!

Ms.T., re: Negro records post. Check your copy of the notice text. A critical “not” got left out.

I read these and think: " I’m probably the only one who gets this." Then I see in the comments everyone gets it. Then I think: “I’m probably the only person I know who would get this if they were to read it.” So I never tell anyone about it in case they would get it.
