Almost $70 to fill up a Honda Accord over here. It cost me about $29 only 4 years ago. Luckily I can still get by, but the working poor are getting screwed by Barry and Friends.Add that to healthcare about to be run by the government(yes it is), 50 million Americans on food stamps and even bigger chunks of peoples paychecks going to taxes, pretty soon Barry and the Spendocrats will control about 70% of people’s money. If they could only figure out a way to take people’s homes without them being able to fight back……….. hmm.
A google search shows several factors causing the increase in gas prices at this time. A refinery closing in New Jersey, existing refineries switching over from winter to summer grade fuel, and several other causes. The increases function as a kind of ‘tax’ on commuters. The subsidies oil companies receive provide insult to injury. Our tax dollars & high prices enable oil companies to hire expensive lobbyists to influence politicians, to donate to politicians’ campaigns, and of course, for pay and bonuses in 7-8 figures. The only ‘positive’ thing we seem to get from the money we pay in tax subsidies and gas prices is the commercials they buy, & the pittance they give to educational and philanthropic causes.I liked Ms. Benson’s cartoon today and felt sadness for the man in it. After the poor guy gets to the very top of that hill…fiscal cliff, sequestration and a politician from each party offering a reason to vote against the other guy.Respectfully,C.
Gasoline prices in Germany are around three times what they are in the US. Yet Germany has recovered from most of the effects of the US caused (thanks to Bush and the Republicans) financial crisis. That includes employment and not just corporate profits. Germans love to drive (you’ve heard of Autobahns without speed limits) and do it a lot. But in Germany there are alternatives to driving that don’t seem to exist in North America. Instead of whining about gas prices you should do something to unchain yourselves from the automobile.
The “tax breaks” are the same for all companies, the $4B is just normal write-offs. Why not close the loop holes the Facebook is using, they made $1B, paid no taxes yet enjoyed over $400M refund due to stock options to employees.
PresBo gave the brazil oil company, Petrobra $2B to drill off shore while 75% of our coast is off-limits. 44% fewer drill permits on public land thanks to PresBo.
Regular is $8.40 a gallon in New Zealand (converted to US), and that his is the one Exxon/Mobil, BP, and Royal Dutch Shell build up at will, over most of the world market. Blaming any single U.S. “politician” is idiocy, just like pretending “gifts” from Congresses and many administrations have given them, haven’t mattered, is equally idiotic.

“Sure, & next time I have a doctor’s appointment, I’ll just hop on a bicycle & pedal my a— the 37 miles there & 37 miles back. I better start the day before! No public transportation here, either. Got any other bright ideas?”.That is exactly my point. I can walk to my doctor. I live in a suburb of a large city. If I lived in the city the chances of doing that would be even better. Things aren’t perfect here, but people aren’t chained to the use of cars like they are in most of the US. The lack of alternatives in transportation in the US didn’t “just happen”..

“And let me add that thanks to Obama, the dollar is way weaker then (sic) it was when he took office. Oil is traded in dollar. Weak dollar, cost more for oil.”.The dollar is in fact stronger against both the Euro and British Pound during the past four years than it was when Bush was President. The only way I ever blamed Bush for high gasoline prices was because of the decline in value of the dollar. When Bush was sworn in a dollar was worth about the same as a Euro. eight years later it cost around $1.55 for one Euro. Under Bush, high gas prices when away when he crashed the economy. It’s supply and demand.
“What’s your point?”.I was replying to another (mistaken) poster. Did you really miss that?.
“Why?”It’s about moving forward and looking for ways to live better… you think that’s a bad idea?An then you call my comment hateful and ignorant, without having anything constructive or informative to say.

These high-price-of-gas cartoons are a cop-out. Just the same crap and arguments (usually completely misunderstood) argued over and over and over.

Tell me RWNJ’s, how, exactly, does POTUS cause the price of gasoline to go up?
spiderlegs54 about 11 years ago
Wow, a politician said he is OK with high gas prices?? I would love to see that transcript, rather than your biased remembrance.

How surprising? We’re about to pay $4 a gallon, just like last year but this year, they will make it.

And please don’t whine!
Because right now, thousands and thousands of my people (the acadians) are basically exiled to Alberta to give the US secure oil!
