This was probably in the hopper before the baloon crash.

“Prof” knows as well as anybody that comics are submitted months in advance…This site displays strips that were already sent to newspapers weeks ago,

which in many cases are already printed in “Features” or “Entertainment” sections that go to press many days ahead of the “News” sections..

Taking one strip out of the line-up is all but impossible.

Dave Coverly is a great cartoonist but I hardly expect that skill set to include accurate prognostication.

And, not to minimise any tragedy, especially to the families of those involved….but to compare a freak balloon explosion which accidentally kills 19 people with a premeditated attack on crowded buildings, which purposely kills thousands….wow…. that gets the hyperbole award of the week!

Humor is not always meant to be “funny”.

I wasn’t even aware of the accident; head in the sand again. I am positive this cartoon is totally a coincidence. We now return to our regular scheduled program. (Where the heck was that “Emergency Broadcast System” during 9/11? I’ve been listening to that dang “Squawk, squawk, squawk” sound since I was a little kid. Didn’t hear it. Who the heck is in charge of turning that on?")

They should have re-ran the one from yesterday or something. This in in bad taste. Maybe when some like this happens they should just have a panel the reads something like “Due to the similarity to recent events today’s comic has been pulled”After 9/11 Hollywood pulled some movies they had millions of dollars tied up in so they could be edited.

I saw an interview somewhere several years ago, I think it was Larry King talking to Jim Carrey – and Carrey mentioned something to the effect that “by the evening of 9/11, comics were doing 9/11 jokes in comedy clubs”. King was not aware of how raw comedy can be.

the sound of a normal-sized balloon animal being made is so squeaky – wonder how the big ones sound?

I wasn’t aware of events in Egypt recently. Not everyone gets all the news. But to look at a comic involving a hot air balloon, and right away compare it to a tragedy involving a balloon, seems a bit sensitive.

    Thank you TKOP.

@Dave Henderson… as I said… it was already printed in newspapers…and even this page was set up a long time before we saw it.

If the strip actually had anything to DO with what happened, maybe they could make an extraordinary and very expensive effortto remove it from this site.

But it has NOTHING to do with it…. and it’s way too late to UN-print newspapers anyway.

The “prof” just likes negative attention.
