    Even though my three years of Latin was over forty years ago, I’ve retained much of it. Funny thing is I’ve forgotten most of the Hebrew since my bar mitzvah.

    Actually, for a world where her best friend being a stuffed horsey she is omnipotent already. Wouldn’t it be nice if anyone everywhere would enjoy such bliss?

    @emptc12My mention yesterday, of Vatican I and Pius IX ‘s attempt to shore up the Church’s waning influence in a rapidly secularizing Europe in the late 1860’s resulted in the doctrine of papal infallibility, was directed at the political motivations of the Church.I gather that not many people knew what ex cathedra meant.As with all religious institutions, there are theological, moral, and political reasons for everything in the Catholic Church. Whether it is a Papal Bull, an Encyclical, or simply a public statement by the Pope, those three factors are always in the mix.I agree with your assessment of ecclesiastical matters being a closed logic system. Christianity has historically “borrowed” from Judaism, as Islam has “borrowed” from both.A sense of the true history of religions, goes a long way to understanding just how complex religiosity is.Man is the only animal that prays – or needs to !

    “If the pope is infallible, which he clearly is not wouldn’t that put him on par with say, God? . . .”

    +++++

    The way it is defined, he is only infallible through the aid of the Holy Spirit—that is, when aligned with God in the first place, and not for his own good, but for the good of the faithful.

    Indeed, we believe in infallibility because Jesus himself promised the Holy Spirit to support the faithful and “guide them to all truth” at the Last Supper, according to the Gospel according to John.

    Also, we do not worship the pope. You are very much mistaken.

    Danae’s comprehension of infallibility is…not at all logical. It’s in a very specific very rare circumstance, some popes may have never even done what it takes to be infallible…so yeah. Danae, forget it gurl.
