    It’s strange that WD-40 has such a reputation as a lubricant, because it was developed as a water displacer, which is what the WD stands for. Penetrating oil is meant for a job like this. I don’t know of any comparative tests.

    Don’t put it on and come back 6 months later and expect it to work — it will be stuck even worse. ( Experience of a locksmith unsticking WD40’d locks.)

    I use a pencil to clean coroded Knife blades and lubricate knife hinges.
