    “What does a Bike Racer eat?”

    CARBS! More CARBS! And even More CARBS!

    I knew guys who’d down a couple POUNDS of raw Pasta the day before a race. No sauce, just a little Olive oil to help it “slide down.”

    Raw pasta? Hoping it means it was at least boiled. No kidding. I knew people who would eat Raman noodle blocks (minus the salt/flavor packet) as well as elbow mac out of the plastic bag. Cannot imagine the agita associated with the stomach trying to digest hard pasta. Ick.

    I take granola bars along on my rides. (I’m not a spandex-wearin’ bike nut, I ride for transportation.)

    The punchline doesn’t do much for me, but I can’t stop laughing at the image. I think it’s even funnier than Watterson’s T. rexes in F15s.

    My thought exactly. Wondering why they haven’t found fossils of really big bikes.

    Raw generally means uncooked. I have a spouse who likes to eat uncooked pasta for a snack while he cooks some for us. I’ve read about runners who eat a big pot of cooked pasta and a few bananas before a race. The bananas were to provide more carbs. They also add some potassium to control muscle cramping, along with some water, since the fruit is about 98% water.

    Shouldn’t the statement be about butt, thighs, and exercise?

    @ne7minder55That is so true!

    Jef should get that T-Rex on bike image out to merchandising. Would love a t-shirt!

    I bike tour, which is slower than racing but can make for long days. I go through a LOT of peanut butter, srirachi, and pasta.

    Bike riders endangered? Not in my home town. They are taking over the streets—riding four across where there is not enough room for two cars side-by-side; riding too far to the left on narrow streets, knowing that the law says a dirver must leave 3’ of space to the cyclist’s left, causing the driver to have go well below the limit or move into the oncoming lane to pass; cutting in and out of traffic; blowing stop signs (not even a California stop!); turning left in front of oncoming traffic; ignoring pedestrians. Oh! I guess stupid riding and disobeying traffic laws might be endangering, after all.

    Uncooked ramen makes a great salad with shredded cabbage, slivered almonds, chicken chunks (canned works fine) and dressed with sesame oil and rice vinegar and maybe a little soy sauce.
