GoComics still seems to be showing the blurb they put in when Oliphant was in Arizona for a few weeks some time back.

The cartoon above is from today, and I don’t think he’s going for a chuckle or a belly laugh, but just making the point that the NRA is in it for gun sales, and they’ll push nonsensical conspiracy theories if it’ll whip up some hysteria from their feeble-witted desensitized base.

Your point is well taken. This whole topic and beating up on the NRA as murders is repeated with so little creativity it’s hardly pertinent. In my mind it borders on plagiarism because it’s “theme” has been repeated to such a degree it’s become mundane. But that is the nature of the media today, take a topic and beat it to shreds until people just become impervious to their message. Ignore the underlying problems that are the cause of our problems and find the quickest scapegoat we can to lay the blame on.

Resorting to ad hominem attacks and unclear ramblings about the “REALITY of an organization’s existence, and message” — what do you even mean? How about addressing the cartoon? The NRA of recent years has consistently supported the “right” of anyone to buy any weapon they want in the US, including terrorists, with no restrictions whatsoever. Furthermore, they have crippled (through donations to pliable Congresspeople) law enforcement’s ability to even track down illegal weapons, let alone punish offenders. And you think Oliphant’s the kook?

Great artwork! The look on poor, put-upon Leroy’s face is petulance with pen and ink…bravo, Mr. Oliphant!

I agree with your first paragraph to an extent. As for the “ban,” CT had the “ban” in place. It didn’t stop the insane person, there.

One reason the NRA has 4.5 million members is that some clubs require NRA membership to be in the club. You might have a hard time finding a place to practice, or hunt if you are not an NRA member.

Simply amazed at how many stupid people there are on both sides of the issue. Still comes down to the fact that good, sane people do NOT commit the crimes. If you believe bans and laws will have ANY impact then yes- you are that special kind of stupid.

@SharuniboyOf course the “waistline on the cartoon” is that of UNCLE SAM by way of W.C. Fields, and not Oliphant himself. It baffles me why the NRA (which supported the original assault weapon ban way back when) won’t even support banning gun sales to people on terrorism “no flight” lists!

The NRA glorifies guns & acts as an industry mouthpiece. Once upon a time, the NRA existed mainly to promote gun safety. Those days are long over. There are better groups out there that promote safety & sensible Second Amendment rights. The NRA promotes the same movies & games that it claims are to blame for influencing “unbalanced” people.

The 40% figure is the portion of gun sales that are private party transactions, which don’t require background checks in many states. This is why I keep saying that it’s pretty obvious why local gun laws are ineffective. Can’t buy a gun in your town? Odds are you can drive a couple hours & get one without any trouble.NYC did an investigation into online private party gun sales & found 62% of sellers were willing to proceed with the sale even after being told the buyer couldn’t pass a background check. The loopholes are real and they are huge.

Hell yeah. Maybe that deer had a gun. And the only way to stop a bad deer with a gun is a pathetic loser with a gun

Just in case Oliphant hasn’t noticed, and he probably hasn’t, the 2nd Amendment does not mention hunting.

If all gun owners, dealers, and re-sellers were as honest and dedicated as gun-rights advocates say they are, how do criminals end up with guns? Serious question; I’m not trying to badger anyone. I really want to know.

And how would you like to have Ted Nugent as your next-door neighbor?

ATF has not had a head for more than 6 years. ATF has the same number of investigators in the field as they did 40 years ago. Background checks must be destroyed soon after completion. Gun dealers are not required to keep inventory, therefore can claim they just didn’t notice guns were gone. Gun owners are not prosecuted for not securing guns stolen and then re-used. The average gun dealer is investigated by the ATF once every 17 years. People can sell guns to anyone at any time, out of the trunk of their cars, with no requirement to investigate the potential purchaser.

All of this came about because of lobbying from NRA.

And then they have the gall to say, “If only the current gun laws were enforced….”

Where is the word “hunt” or “hunting” in the constitution?

Why do liberals think we want guns to kill Bambi?

ans……. liberals never read the constitution.

Thank you ever so much for pointing out the error of my ways. I am now riddled with guilt and recrimination. I think that was what you wanted to happen with your brilliant treatise for the new world order. I felt I should share it with others here so we could all bask in your brilliance"

“Likewise, I like “Why are you Pro Murderer?” even though it get’s few responses, I know it penetrates. Some find it a reason to claimvictimhood and justify their position, but I know the seed has been planted, the next job is to nuture it and eventually it will becometheir own thought, their own Reasoned question of their self (Reason’s Ventriloquist!).

Perservere, please. This isuue is the basis for a whole new world structure. Ask me and I’ll explain. "

    Isn’t that special????

If guns are not the problem, as some claim, but rather; that it is some mysterious “underlying issues”, then someone (not an NRA member) should define what these “underlying issues” are. Anyone care to do this?

The ignorant are showing themselves again. “Military style” “assault weapons” are non-sensical terms created by power-hungry people to scare the average American. Just because a gun looks scary does not mean it operates differently than grandpa’s old-fashioned hunting rifle. Go educate yourselves before you start regurgitating the buzz words spewed forth by the Feinsteins and the Piers Morgans of society.

And is it also Leroy’s god-given constitutional right to open fire on a classroom of children? The NRA’s solution is to DO SOMETHING about the mental health system, but if you can’t have anyone declared too nuts to own a firearm (at least until after they kill somebody), I don’t know how you’re gonna keep/get the guns out of the hands of nut-jobs. I also don’t see anybody too worried about the god-given constitutional RIGHTS of a 5-year-old to go to school without a gunman grabbing him off the bus and holding him hostage for a week.

The message I get from some of these commenters: “If you don’t refer to the weapon by its exact technical title, you don’t get to regret that X number of people were just mowed down by it.” What a load of dingo’s kidneys.

I must have just imagined that Dad brought home a deer with his single-shot muzzle loader once. And another time, with a bow and arrow. Then I imagined that we ate them for weeks after. Because you need real firepower to get those babies. Well-regulated firepower.
