A mothers work is never done….First you change their diapers, then you buy them school clothes (well, the first one, anyway… lucky when the second one is also a girl.)
Finally you get one of them married off….but you still have to entertain them both.
Oh well, she can ask them questions about the stupid phone, and give them some of those old cookies she’s been saving.
And use her time productively by calling someone else while they talk to each other.
Well, just because you can walk around doesn’t mean that you have to. Altho from the questions, it seems like she really wanted a cell phone.She better get off the phone pretty quick or her girls will have eaten all of her “old” cookies. Which is probably why she put them out.
You find interesting things in Ma’s house….For example, I found the Find-It….. twice!
I think Verl’s cup is meant to say Tagamet but it says Tagamen.
And that might be Aunt Mildred with Ma.in the framed picture … She was two years older than Ma, just like Joy is two years older than Verla.I bet that’s why Joy was named after her.

Never got the hang of having it in the living room or bedroom. I think her son got it about a year later and she used the same one she had for the last 50 yrs or so.. Old habits are hard to break I guess
I was more tech savvy in those days. Phone co. used to charge for each phone/extension in your house (installed by them). I eventually paid for a 2nd line (when 4 kids were teens) and that new one was only for me. My basement office phone (wall phone mounted on my huge drafting table) had a toggle switch beside it so I could answer either line from my stool. I picked up phones from family Realty Co as many were abandoned in properties they managed; I was good even at soldering those miniscule wires in the connectors/switches, so I had extensions in as many rooms as I liked (once ran one over to a neighbor’s house) and also had voice-activated recorder on kids line for a while. Many stories about all those . .
Later on (before cable) I had “ON-TV” and I had an even more elaborate network for those lines (so kids might not always watch what I chose to watch).
