The White House is too busy trying to legalize over 11 million criminals who snuck into our country. Yes that’s more people than the ENTIRE state of Michigan! That should help the job market……..
The artwork reflects my own view of the childishness and immaturity rampant in Wash. DC. It would be nice to think the chairs are empty while misbehaving brats stand with noses firmly in corners until they agree to come back and play nice. It would be nice, but unrealistic.Perhaps if Mr. Obama would follow in the footsteps of previous presidents who invited legislators for dinner, trips to Camp David, or just drinks, a relationship of understanding and trust could be formed, but Mr. Obama seems aloof, and legislators seem party first, donors second, country third or even further down the line.Good cartoon Ms. Benson.Respectfully,C.
A lot of the work done by illegals is as migrant farm workers who are paid by the amount they harvest, etc. Sometimes this is for a pittance and at other times it is for decent pay. A local newspaper article documented that for three months of picking apples, etc. the workers earned as much as $20,000+. The income taxes were collected as well as Social Security taxes paid. Most of these workers never saw a refund nor will have a chance to draw SS. Those workers were being shortchanged by our government as they returned to Mexico after the harvesting was finished.
the fish rots at the head first….Obama’s “I Don’t Care” attitude is clearly exposed by his appointed and taxpayer paid “Jobs Council”…..and his appointed and paid Economic Panel that produced a Report that is covered with dust and spiderwebs in Obama’s “filing and forgetting” room.-the MSM doesn’t usually tell Americans who got the “new Jobs” counted by the Obama regime…or what type of jobs they were….a large % temporary and low pay without benefits. A large number of new “employees” are Overqualified and jobs are deadend.
I bet that GE chief, Jeff Immelt, has meeting at work. Like moving his X-Ray Division to China. Or like Fiat buying Chrysler, for a song, and then making Jeeps in China, or GM making Caddys in China.
The Jobs Council was mostly made up of business leaders. They weren’t paid a salary & it wasn’t meant to be an ongoing committee. The council itself turned out to be deeply divided on what measures would create jobs. Typical committee.Obama made moves to implement most of their recommendations, but only half ran through the Congressional gantlet.I don’t see Republicans out there with serious ideas on how to boost employment.
Mechanic, you do have a valid point that businesses in the US aren’t free of guilt. But don’t paint the illegal immigrants as hapless victims of the system. They all know that what they are doing is illegal, otherwise they would be coming through the border at confirmed points of entry with papers and other forms of legal verification. I’m not saying they are doing it to be malicious to the citizens of this country, and they are likely doing it to better themselves and their families. I’m simply saying that what they are doing is illegal, and this amnesty program only encourages them to continue the illegal practice and it cheapens the process those who came here legally used to gain full citizenship.I 100% do not approve of the use of illegal immigrants as a labor force. However, that means that we will have higher prices at the register; prices that we should be paying. But that goes back into the culture to which I was describing. People have become accustomed to a life where illegal immigrant labor is used, people pay less, and don’t take low-paying or undesirable jobs because they don’t have to. If illegal immigration was cut off at the knees, businesses would have to hire citizens, pay them appropriate wages for work, and maintain compliance with laws. It would also mean the consumer would accept the costs of the higher-cost labor force, because businesses will simply pass the cost of labor onto the consumer. That “sticker shock,” or fear of it, is what keeps illegals employed like they are.
From the White House website for the Jobs Council (24 members)About the CouncilThe President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness (Jobs Council) was created to provide non-partisan advice to the President on continuing to strengthen the Nation’s economy and ensure the competitiveness of the United States and on ways to create jobs, opportunity, and prosperity for the American people.
The Jobs Council is made up of members appointed by the President from among distinguished citizens outside the Federal Government, including citizens chosen to serve as representatives of the various sectors of the economy to offer the diverse perspectives of the private sector, employers, and workers on how the Federal Government can best foster growth, competitiveness, innovation, and job creation.
The Jobs Council will:
1.Solicit ideas from across the country about how to bolster the economy and the prosperity of the American people that can inform the decision making of the President; 2.Report directly to the President on the design, implementation, and evaluation of policies to promote the growth of the American economy, enhance the skills and education of Americans, maintain a stable and sound financial and banking system, create stable jobs for American workers, and improve the long term prosperity and competitiveness of the American people; and3.Provide analysis and information with respect to the operation, regulation, and healthy functioning of the economy and other factors that may contribute to the sustainable growth and competitiveness of American industry and the American labor force. The Jobs Council will work collaboratively with all agencies and all offices within the Executive Office of the President toward the fulfillment of these goals.-NOWHERE ON THAT WEBSITE COULD I FIND INFO ON WHETHER THE MEMBERS SERVED WITHOUT COMPENSATION.
Once again, that’s a sign of the culture our country has built. If there were no illegals in the country, construction companies couldn’t hire undocumented workers, and would be forced to utilize American workers. If we didn’t have such a dependency built into the culture of the lower income brackets, you wouldn’t have such chronic unemployment and mooching off the system. So while the cost of xyz might be higher, more Americans would be employed, fewer would be sitting on the system, and our labor participation rate would be higher. Just remember…. if even half the 11 million illegals in this country were undocumented laborers, that’s 5 million more American jobs that are being filled by illegal immigrants. That’s 5 million fewer people on welfare or Social Security “Disability.” 5 million fewer people on the government dole. 5 million fewer on food stamps. Just some food for thought.
Our GDP going negative for the fourth quarter is evidence enough that this administration’s concern for the economy is secondary to their other agenda. This is the weakest and slowest recovery from a recession since WW 2. Trying to blame this all on the republican’s is ridiculous as well. Both parties deserve equal credit for their lack of action on coming up with viable solutions to this countries economic problems. The Fed is pumping billions into the financial markets which has been great for Wall St to borrow money for next to nothing and turn it for their profits. Sure as hell hasn’t done anything else substantial for the economy.
Of course you would come up with:‘not doubting you, but would like substantiation. Where did you get your information?’…that most of those 11 million undocumented migrants are working? Well, do you see 11 million people standing around doing nothing or working in your gardens, your fields, your car washes, your restaurants, your kitchens, your hotels, your …:-|People whether documented or not, buy food, buy goods & services in order to survive. They contribute to your economy. They contribute by providing extremely cheap labour. Without them your lives would be quite different, more expensive for a start.Ansonia, have you provided a source for the statement that you made a few days ago: that the U.N. agreed that Iraq had WMDs in 2003?
‘The UN felt that it was a possibility that he had them and agreed with Bush that Saddam was a danger. Bush had the support of the UN.’The U.N. doesn’t “feel” anything. Support what exactly? Bush most certainly did not have the support of the U.N. Please show me where it states it had. Do you have a source that confirms it?
‘However, I heard recently that illegal crossings were down’Correct. The economic downturn has meant there are fewer jobs in the US for them. Immigration numbers in the USA dropped from 12 million odd to 11 million estimated in the last few years. If you don’t want immigration, work with your neighbours to ensure their economies aren’’t so weak. If someone doesn’t need to migrate to improve their lot, they won’t. Stronger economic neighbours means you can trade more with them. It’s a win-win situation.
