Ah the days of calling voicemail to see if that cute boy called you and left a message. The anticipation! The disappointment! :-)

And I’m sure there are plenty of old-timers here who remember when voicemail was cutting edge, and even further back when the only way you got messages was when someone took a message and wrote it down for you. As a kid, I was taught how to tell someone that my parents were “busy” when they weren’t home and could I take a message?

Hello Cathy friends! Happy Wednesday! Have a great day, all!

You know. Now that I think about it, I don’t voicemail much anymore. I suppose with texts and emails, who really needs to talk to a machine?

I do both phone calls and text messages. My brother and his wife are still in London until 12/15, but if I need to message them I can send them a text or an email and not have to worry about calling them when it’s early morning over there. When I was checking my email at the doctor’s office yesterday, I found when the memorial service for an old friend at church who passed away last month is. So I sent him an email with the date. With younger people in my life, sometimes I call other times I text. One good thing about my generation (which, when you think about it, was the first to embrace the concept of home computing), is you can take what you like about new technology and leave the rest. I find there’s certain comfort in knowing you’re in a demographic where the latest reality series or other trend can become popular without your help.

I do the vast majority of my online communication with WhatsApp, which is very popular in Mexico, where I live. With those friends who don’t use WhatsApp, we stay in touch via emails.

I hate talking to voice mail machines and not overly fond of texting on a phone keypad. I much prefer phone conversations or email exchanges if I cannot see the person face to face.

It has only been the last year that I had a phone that could text and have had to spend time explaining to people that I do not carry my phone with me all the time so I may not see their text until the next day. If it is urgent, phone me. If I am not available on my home phone I cannot be reached anyway so I cannot help you so you will just have to pretend like it is 30 years ago.

    Have a fantastic mid-week day.

Wow. That voice mail isn’t afraid to speak the truth in the third large panel, is it? I say to talk back and give it a taste of its own medicine, comic Cathy!
