I don’t know how to discount a gift I give. I just hand it to them and go get a cup of coffee. It’s up to them to like it or not. I shopped! That is the gift. The trinket is just proof of the effort.

Haha, she got you, Cathy! Although I still think it’s odd to minimize the gift you got for someone else. It’s implying that you didn’t value your friend enough to get them something nice.

Hello Cathy friends! Happy Saturday! Have a great day, all!

I like the way vaughnrl2003 thinks. Why discount a gift? If you bought the gift because you care about the other person (and what other reason is there to gift someone? A gift given out of obligation is not a gift!) discounting it says you don’t care that much.

I got back home last night and had just enough time to catch up on Cathy before I head back to my home town for the last three live presentations of “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Although the theatre is limited to 50% capacity because of covid restrictions we are still getting good turnouts each night. ‘See’ you all again on Tuesday. Keep safe until then.

As others have said, a gift is a gift. The gesture ought to mean at least something, and if the recipient doesn’t like it, it’s a bummer for the giver—but not the giver’s problem. The effort was there. Or something like that.

    HI, MOM. Hello, Clan.

For the giver…don’t downplay the effort you went through to get someone a gift.

For the receiver…Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth…unless it’s something offensive, just accept it and say thank you.
