I’m not sure I’ll do this every day, but for those who can’t see the writing:

Panel 1: Yesterday was humiliating. The client was casual and hip… and we looked like overdressed, out-of-touch geezers.

2: Today I’ve reinstated a more relaxed dress code, acknowledging that our clients are simply more creative, cutting-edge types!

3: Except, of course, the ones with whom we have a meeting this morning. Are you the cleaning crew, or do we have the wrong office?

As I said yesterday and all along, be yourself yet be professional, and let your work speak for yourself. A casual and hip client will hire you if they like your work. Same for a super conservative client. And unless you are in a really casual industry where it is typical to be dressed like you are at the pool or just rolled out of bed, then look professional so that your dress is not a distraction from your product/service.

Hello Cathy friends! Happy Friday! Have a great day!

I’d much rather be over-dressed than under-dressed any day of the week — no matter what the occasion. And when it comes to working in a professional office setting, I think this is especially important. I’d much rather the casual hipsters think I’m an “out-of-touch geezer” than have the more conservative clients look at me and ask me if I’m part of the cleaning crew. Ouch!

I always dressed professionally whenever I represented the company I worked for – even if casual dress was the norm in the office. Hmmm – I even dressed professionally at the office when casual dress was the norm. Just the way I was taught I guess. It just did not feel right showing up for work in jeans and a t-shirt.

Like Mom said, I hope everyone had a really nice day today.
