In her first full year as the top boss of Hewlett-Packard, Whitman took home nearly $15.4 million in compensation.”^Ms. Whitman made over 16 million in 2011 and there were 29,000 layoffs in 2012, and there are more layoffs scheduled in the US and UK in 2013.^This is just one example of the wide gap between the middle class and corporate CEOs. Ms. Whitman is making millions by trimming the work force. Naa…. food stamps and the O free phone is good enough for the 47%."Your simple minded partisan obsession with hating Obama prevents you from remembering that government subsidized phone service was started by Republican darling Ronald Reagan.
This is no joke – This morning I received an E-mail from one of the major telecomm companies I contract for, offering me a full-time position IF I agreed to work for NO PAY for 2 years. Someone apparently decided that my job could be divided up between 5 unpaid interns, but extended the “opportunity” to me because they would rather not have to spend time training new people when they have us contractors available. Our only problem is we like being paid.
HEY, I KNOW! The corporations can pay us with company script. Then open a store providing for all out needs where we can spend the script. What a great plan!Wait….what?
Harley said, "Obamacare will hit the part time worker the hardest. "*Without Obamacare, a part-time worker cannot buy health insurance at an affordable price. With Obamacare, they can. Same for the self-employed (like me). *Many like me buy their own health insurance, but we shouldn’t get ripped off JUST because we are buying our own health insurance.
VOILA! It just dawned on me that Mr. Ima is not a real poster! He is a shill hired by the GC organization to keep the message boards spun up and active. Very clever of those people…
Harley, I guess you and I live in different realities. When I worked for a large corporation, my employer got a significant group discount, and passed the savings on to me. When I started working for myself, my health insurance costs went way up, in part because I couldn’t get a group discount, and in part because I had fewer choices and had to pick from a small list of expensive options. *Under Obamacare, I’ll be able to get rates closer to the group rates.*You may not like what I just said because it conflicts with your reality, but I’ll enjoy the savings just the same.
“It is an anti competing proposition. You either pay this price or nothing. You will no longer be able to shop around for what is best for you.”Seriously, how dense are you? You will still be able to shop around for the insurance plan & provider that suits you best. The conservative theory behind Obamacare is that bringing a lot of younger, healthier people into the insurance system will bring premiums down. The ACA does force some things on insurers in terms of minimum coverage offerings & the percentage of premiums that must go toward actual care, as opposed to administration or profit. For the overwhelming majority of people who currently have insurance, Obamacare is a non-event.
The not-so-small business owners griping about Obamacare are looking more foolish & more selfish every time they open their mouths. The guy who owns a string of Denny’s wants to add a 5% “Obamacare surcharge” on meals. If adding a quarter to the $5 value meal means the servers, cashiers & dishwashers can actually have insurance, that sounds good to me. Not that I’m eating at Denny’s anytime soon!
Those workers who chose to take the cash rather than get health care, why did you give them the cash? We’ve had to pay for their health care every time they ended up in the emergency room or the hospital, because they were too foolish to realize they couldn’t/wouldn’t get sick or injured, and our premiums reflect that. Or are you one of those Rand Paul “Let them die” idiots?

The rise of unpaid internships is one of the worst symptoms of today’s corporate mentality.
