I’m not from Texas and I don’t live here bu this seems like a typical East Coast Liberal’s view of anything that isn’t New York.
We are all told to celebrate diversity when it’s Latino Culture, or African American Culture, or any other culture that comes from a group that is feeling oppressed. But apparently it’s fine to make fun of any White American culture that doesn’t embrace Socialism and Anti-Christian values.
Not all of Texas is Mexican Restaurants and Guns, and not all of Appalachia is Honey Boo Boo, and Not all of the Midwest is Gay-hating bigots. There are honest, decent people all over the country who don’t want to give up there guns and, more importantly, don’t want to give up their rights so that liberals can feel safer when they walk their $2000 pet to the Starbucks.
What a fool. Never been to New York have you? Go to upstate NY and you will find plenty of land. As for Texas, look at the idiot who is currently governor… Nuff Said
let’s ban all firearms in the Us. The only people with firearms will be the military. The first to be disarmed should be the capitol police and secret service. Then we can disarm all the body guards protecting Rosey Odonell and her HollyWood friends.I was born in NY and moved to Tx in the 70’s. I’ve lived here during the, on going, war on drugs. So let’s ban all guns and give the political leaders a pay raise with increased benefits for the outstanding job the do.
I got a very bad impression of Texans at a very early age. I had a couple of friends that lived next door, they were generally very good kids with one exception, all they could do was to continually brag about Texas! Everything was sooo much better in Texas. The only problem for them is that their father could not find work in the aerospace industry that he worked in there, and so they were (like me) living in horrible California!
I am indeed certain that there are good people in all of the states of the Union, including Texas, New York, and even the conservatives most hated state in California. In fact, we also have our share of not only conservatives but also ultra conservatives, and even those fanatics that also want California to secede from the US. And as California already has the best economy in the US (and the eight largest economy in the world) that would be very bad for all the other states of the Union. But not to worry, we normal moderates (on both sides of the political spectrum) will keep such people in line!
I have also found that where the cost of living is usually less, the wages are also less, and so you are not necessarily any better off anyway!
We have a basic problem here, everybody thinks his or her state is either superior or victimized, But a good cartoonist doesn’t succumb to that…Yeah Texas has its share of idiots ( I live here so I know…ex Rick Perry) but so does NY. I expected more from you Jeff, because you are one of my favorite political cartoonists (although given the level of commentary here I doubt you bother to read our comments)
Zipi: Sure, providing you don’t insist on getting paid..vtcwvet: You don’t have to go back to the Alamo. Sam Rayburn is spinning in his grave less than a mile from where I live. If you don’t like Texas, come down here and help us fight for liberty and justice for all.
While I would never want to live in the crowded conditions of New York, or L.A.,, or Dallas-Ft Worth, Texas would be about the bottom of the list (most of the state- the people, not the landscape). Take away their oil, and federal jobs and investments in aerospace and defense, and Texas would be bankrupt very quickly. The state bragging so much about its independent nature, is actually among the most dependent on a limited resource, and outside financing of their “benefits”.
Just for the record, Danziger isn’t some elitist New Yorker who has never travelled west of the Hudson. He is Vietnam vet and recipient of the Bronze Star. He taught school in Vermont. He lives in New York for the same reason most people live wherever they do, that is where his work is.
P.S. New York has some great Tex-Mex places. Rode Bar & Grill on 3rd Avenue in Manhattan is pretty good.I can walk down Smith Street in Brooklyn and have my pick of French, Mexican, Italian, Indian, Chinese, or good old American.
Well, that is about the best news you have given all of us! New York is too sophisticated and has more cultural highlights than you could handle. Maybe except for the Bronx Zoo.
I live in the Adirondacks, and they are beautiful. Have no desire to live in NYC – did so for 3 years, & that was enough. But there are truly wonderful, kind and helpful people there, too. My experience is that there are good and there are bad everywhere.
The staff in our Radio Shacks (Crazy California) doesn’t know they only sell cell phones anyway. It’s really gotten bad in the last ten years. If you go into Radio Shack, you better know what you’re looking for — because no one is going to help you figure it out.
…a nut for a Governor…. Forced to work there several times…. first thing I learned was the high price of brains in Texas…‘cause there’s so damn few of them
Don’t forget, Texas is a much safer place to live. In New York, only criminals have the best weapons. Honest citizens are less protected, and thus, less safe.
@orthodox catholic“We were watching a program about apartment hunting in NYC. 1,200 square foot apartments there sell for as much as $1 M and include the fumes, no grass, no place to have a garden, no swimming pool, and a high crime rate.<>Just WHO is it that is crazy in this picture?”you must have been watching a very old show. apartments in my mid-rise middle class building now sell for more than 2,000 dollars a square foot. And the crime rate in NYC is quite low, probably much safer than most parts of texas to live in. Our property values weren’t much affected by the real estate crash. incredible mass transit, restaurants, parks and culture. High wages, lots of services, i’m not quite sure why anyone would want to live anywhere else.
