Why don’t we just forget all this and move on, we all know nothing is going to change. Humans are nothing more than walking apes with better weapons

Its the same old story of the Old West. We are a peace loving town but we need a man with a gun to protect our sorry fantasy when the bad guys show up. The job of keeping the peace was a man with a gun. How hard is that to understand?

Here’s the text of the Second Amendment: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.Where in that text does it say a citizen may have an assault weapon? A 100 round magazine? Armor piercing bullets? Dum-dum bullets? NRA and other gun nuts would say it all comes under the “right of the people to keep and bear arms”. Fine. Let’s go by what was available in the late 1700’s when this amendment was written and passed by the states. Arms can mean a sword, a blunderbuss, a carbine, a flintlock, a musket, or a sabre.

We have the ATF. Of course Congressman Sensenbrenner inserted a requirement that the ATF director has to be confirmed by the Senate (into the Patriot Act, 2006), so there has not been an ATF Director in 6 years. Congressman Tiahrt, 10 years ago, inserted into a spending bill an amendment (sponsored by the NRA) restrictions on the ATF. This bill severely restricted the ATF’s ability to do what the NRA says they want them to do, which is enforce existing gun laws. It allowed dealers to ignore police requests for assistance. It denied Congress formerly public crime gun data. It ended the oversight of used firearm sales. It required the destruction of background check records within 24 hours. The ATF has the same number of agents now that it had 40 years ago. It’s time to take gun control away from the NRA (gun manufacturers) and move it back to the federal government, where it belongs. Self-regulation does not work.

Please tell us, in your opinion, what the “reality of the situation” is?All you provided was hyperbole and counter rhetoric, very little substance and absolutely no substantiation for your diatribe, just opinion.Love this one

To reinforce what has been said in the above posts, if you need to use the top row of characters to express yourself, forget it. People do not think it is cute.

What I like best about the cartoon is it shows these groups as childish, immature, and not yet done with the education needed to be part of a society. Still in school, but more interested in their toys than education and bettering themselves.Respectfully,C.

    “Join a modern, rational society.”

I understand you getting irritated by Ima. Obviously that’s his stated purpose. But your irrational rant about the NRA and gun owners is a bit over the top don’t you think? If that’s an example of a modern, rational society comment we have very different definitions of rational.

The NRA is showing its true stripes. It wants to build an armed anti-American terrorist group that will shoot anyone who does not agree with it.

I can’t help but agree with the notion that this need for bigger and more powerful weaponry is distinctly Freudian; a bunch of impotent and powerless men making up for their lack of manliness with ever more deadly guns and bullets. It’s almost funny, except for the fact that these wimps whip out their assault weapons whenever they feel threatened, which is often, and use these tools for their express purpose, which is assualting people, and usually killing them. Big guns do not equal manhood; indeed they symbolize exactly the opposite. A real man will fight mano-a-mano, only a coward needs a long range weapon and a 50 round magazine.

LOL, spell much? That is such a simple concept yet you can’t get it right. You should really proofread prior to casting aspersions towards others. The toon I posted is an original or modeled on another, who really cares, it’s a poignant reminder that the King in Chief believes he can govern by decree, the Constitution be damned.Be careful what you cheer for, if this type of legislation by decree is allowed to stand, where will it end? There is a purpose and intent to the structure of the Constitution, if you don’t like it, tough. Vote for legislators that will work to change it, otherwise go cry in the corner with the rest of the whiners.

Ouch, Radish,Pack the bags, we’re going on a guilt trip? The viciousness of the words are what I’m flagging. I know et2008 has good things to offer because of other posts he’s made, but this venom is painful to read. What is the flag for, if not to dissuade ppl from using thinly veiled vulgarities to attack others using their first amendment rights?I tend to flag liberals more than conservatives because I confuse liberal and progressive. I expect conservatives to be more “narrowminded”, thinking rightisright, and the only government is conservgov. But while those names come with acerbic opinion, they are rarely vulgar. That said, I respect what your support of et and I hope he will be more creative in his future attacks. Believe me, there are times I have to walk away for a bit before hitting submit.I’ve really been enjoying your posts Radish, even the ones not replying to me. :) You’re good people.et is good people too, he’s just very very angry.Respectfully,C.

I put this question out to the gun enthusiasts out there:Why is an Assult Rifle considered an “Arms” and therefore cannot be regualted, but a Surface-to-Air missile not an “Arm” (since that is regulated)?

LOL, you still can’t spell, try Websters you tool or Dictionary.com for your lack of spelling prowess.I confirmed nothing for you in any way, shape or form. The only thing confirmed is how utterly lazy you are. I also notice that you never responded to the “reality of the situation” request. Incapable of supporting your diatribe I notice, although it looks like I touched a nerve with you.The intent of the Constitution in today’s world? Really, please tell us what learned institution do you belong to or have a JD from that gives you that breadth of knowledge? Didn’t think so . . .FYI, I own exactly 2 runs, both antiques that belonged to my Grandfather and have never been fired by me. Nice conversation pieces though. You are incapable of making the last observation, you neither have enough information, but I admire your attempts, it shows you’re not afraid of making mistakes, just seems you’re not learning from them.Rant ON!

I honestly don’t understand how assault weaponry can be defended or justified for personal or civilian purposes – that is, for non-law enforcement and non-military use. I understand hunting rifles, sporting rifles for skeet shooting, hand guns for target practice, marksman competition, personal protection…I’m totally on board with all of that as being allowed by an’ protected under the 2nd Amendment…but how can civilian ownership of true assault weapons be defended?…If you are itching to purchase such a gun, can you give a plausible intended use? They certainly aren’t for the sport of hunting, an’ they’re pretty conspicuous for personal self-defense. I just don’t get all the fuss over defending the civilian sale and ownership of weapons which were designed for an’ intended for use by the military in combat situations and/or law enforcement in protecting an’ safeguarding the public. What am I missing here???

They are a lobbying group that has a side line of teaching shooting. The reason we hear about their lobbying efforts is because that’s what they emphasize. And if you think they don’t know how to manipulate the media, you’re a bigger fool than I thought. The NRA once used to be pretty reasonable. The same demon got ahold of them that got the GOP. I know a good priest who might be able to do a double exorcism.

The NRA really has no idea what the 2nd amendment is about! They might try reading it in context (literal and historical) How many of them have ever been part of the militia that the US has? They complain a lot and have their OWN ideas about who should be allowed to own as many guns as they can afford without any control. At least Switzerland trains every male in their country to protect their land and issues them a (notice the singular) gun to be ready at all times to do the protection. The NRA just seems to want to collect guns – especially ones that are only meant to be a ‘bigger stick’ to beat others into submitting to their radical ideology.

Lessons From Guns and a GooseBy NICHOLAS D. KRISTOFPublished: January 16, 2013 404 Comments

When I travel abroad and talk to foreigners about the American passion for guns, people sometimes express a conclusion that horrifies me: in America, life is cheap.
