    Using Newton’s approximation which statesf(x) = f(x0) + f’(x0)*(x-x0)

    f(x) = X^.5 which means f’(x) = -.5/X^.5

    Let x0 = 225 then f(x0) = 15

    Then f(245) = 225^.5 + (-.5/225^.5)*(245-225)f(245) = 15.666666

    15.66666 * 15.66666 = 245 and 4/9

How about: guess and try it, keep guessing and trying until you get it. My first guess was 15, then started increasing by 0.1, et cetera.

Find another tutor and don’t forget to pay the 5 dollars you owe her.

The old civil engineering way, get your big book of math tables and look up the common log of 245, which is 2.389166 Divide that by two for a square root, which is 1.194583. Now we look up that number in the table to see what number has that common log. that number is 15.65 which is close enough for buildings and bridges
