Bev… it may have just quietly updated itself when you weren’t looking….

It’s also possible that Adobe (who make Flash and Shockwave) got a lot of complaints and fixed whatever was making it incompatible with some systems.

If something like that is happening to you, it’s happening to a lot of other people too….whether or not many others you happen to know are affected.

Closest thing I did to that was hitting the old computer desk (a pressedwood thing I had to assmble) with my fist so hard it made a permanent big dent.

Seldom so frustrated anymore to do that and my current desk is solid ash. I’ll tell you all how it is though once I get on that ultra low fat vegetarian diet for the first few months. No chocolate, cheese, nuts or seeds as well as no animal product other than egg white and yogurt (1 cup per day).

I’ll try to work out a plan within the guidlines that I can stick to for at least the first year. I normally only consume about 1500 cal/day at home and do workout every other day (now adding strider for (2) 1/2 hour periods on the other days. No problems w/weight – just need to bring my BP down to around 140. My lover’s is well under that, but he will help me maintain my diet I’m sure when I return next time (thinking May). Not the caviar and filet mignon like last night and no good organic chocolate with natural milk at bedtime (food doesn’t matter to me if with him) ;-D

I have smashed a computer keyboard and monitor both on the floor in a fit of pique…I would have thrown the base out of the window as well, but I live in Minnesota and it was winter out (-20)…after cleaning up, and replacing both, I think the base was scared for its life, and lasted 2 more years without freezing up once. But when it died, it died hard, and the hard drive was unrecoverable…se la vie…

Those sailing ships reminded me of a late relative. He was Walter LaSalle. My grandmother’s older brother. He ran off as a child to go to sea. He sailed on those Clipper ships of the late 1800’s. Cutty Sark was an example. He loved to tell sea stories as he spent his whole life out there. When I knew him back in the 1960’s he built ship models. He showed me a letter from Ravel Model company who make the model of the Cutty Sark. They claimed to have all the ropes listed with the proper names and locations. He being a sailor on that type spotted one rope improperly named. He wrote them a letter and gave them the proper name for it. They wrote back apologizing for the error and correcting the mistake. I became amazed that he knew the names locations and positions of every rope on those type ships. He explained you had to. If the Captain yelled go secure the port side main sail line you had to know which one to run to. This was some obscure little rope near the stern that secured a block and tackle assembly. He was later on the side paddle wheeler steamers when they began to take over. He said he was mostly a China sailor. I did not know much until years later. He had a vast amount of small china figurines he had gathered over his trips. Left them to me when he passed. I turned them all over to the Smithsonian as a gift. So I imagine they are safely stored.

On the shots of the ships. The top one is correctly done. She is in trouble having to go to storm sails and trying not be capsized by those port waves. Hard put to the task the sailors there to keep her afloat. The other one looks like she is running into the wind with full sails. You cant do that. You have to tack to run into the wind. A side to side run is required. It is dramatic but too fanciful. If she is running with the wind she has too much sail. The stern sails catch all the wind prevent it from reaching the main sails. To run best with that design you want to run just off the wind direction. If the wind is north you want to run a few degrees to North Northwest. That way all the sails catch wind. Good for running.

Oh and on the wind it needs best to be astern to run good. So my north wind meant the wind going south to north not from the north. If it was from the north on the bow then you need to run Northwest for a few leagues then run Northeast for a few leagues. It is a very crooked straight line.. My bad(I love watching sailing racing. America’s Cup fan)

Monkey…. um…if that clock really works….26:103 is perfect!

But I have a watch that used to sometimes read 63:27 and stuff… I had high hopes, but it never seemed quite true.Usually it meant “I got wet!” and after a day or two, it only went to 12:59 like other watches. Then one day letting it dry out didn’t work…. sigh….and now it’s sitting in a drawer, waiting for the world to catch up to it at 37:53 or so.

BTW if you go with the Linguist …be sure to read my warning on last night’s page….

Is everybody leaving again just when I got here?

Just want to let you all know before I say aything else…. my computer crashed a little while ago…. and after the first re-boot it crashed again.

I’m really hoping it’s OK now… I’ve run a virus scan and now I’m running a more complete one… nothing found in that vein.

I’ve looked at some error logs but I’m no programmer…. can’t figure out what happened…

If it happens again I can post briefly from my smart phone, and do some e-mail, so I won’t just disappear…

But for now, I’m staying away from searching for pictures or even watching videos in case something online did it.
