The cartoon fails to show Boehnor, Pelosi, Reid, & McConnall passed out at the table in the corner. And none of them brought their wallets. There’s a banquet room full of money drunk legislators just outside the bar and many lobbyists filling glasses while glazed eyed congressmen and senators thank them and complain that their voters don’t understand them.I certainly don’t.The President could do more to direct the conversation. Gov. Huey Long used to hang out in the Louisiana House and glare at legislators as they debated bills he wanted. Many of our Presidents would invite legislators for dinner, drinks, and even weekends at Camp David in order to build relationships. The President isn’t the problem, but he’s not trying hard enough to be part of the solution. I’m ready for an “angry black man” to speak up on our behalf, but Samuel Jackson wouldn’t want the cut in pay.Lobbyists, special interest super pac donors, executives promising jobs to politicians after “their” interests are met, and other such corruptive influences are the real problem.Besides, the President prefers beer.Respectfully, and perhaps a bit too facetiously,C.
Strange how so many are so quick to heap the blame on the President, as if it was him spending the money that is creating the deficit. The vast amount of the deficit is mandatory spending resulting from programs approved by a series of past Congresses, and military spending from wars started by previous administrations. The spending instigated by this President’s was mainly to save the nation from economic collapse, post 2008.
Great post! But thanks also to cenright and Rockngolfer for pointing out that Congress authorizes the money to be spent, even if it is greater than the debt limit. Executive power is limited in how money can be spent outside the budget.
Thanks for the post. I hope this will help the people who feel that it’s past time to “Blame Bush” understand that although he’s out of the picture, his policies/legacy will live longer than he will.
Four years into the Obama administration, an still no budget proposal. No attempt to get us out of this mess, no matter whose fault it is. Rome is burning, and we’re too busy bickering about fiddles to do anything about it.
Obama’s “budgets” sent every year to Congress…call for increased spending into infinity. The Dem. Senate votes O’s plan down, sometimes 99-0.Congress votes spending piece by piece….with no TOTAL SPENDING CHART on the wall. The TOTAL spent comes after the fiscal year is over. Surprise, surprise!-Jack Lew has been OMB director 3 years…IMO he’s the source for the president declaring to House Speaker Boehner, “We don’t have a spending problem….”!Now, Obama is replacing tax-evader Geithner with Lew at Treasury! the USA is doomed and will truly go bankrupt as soon as the shrunken dollar crashes!
Not condemned, swr, but definitely accused. He has a chance to modify his style, but will he? None of the legislation modifies theirs. For government to work, the President, legislators, courts, and voters have to work together. There are too many willing to see bad things happen to "prove their point’ rather than do what is honorable, ethical, moral, and simply…nice.Respectfully,C.
Have another look at what I said. I was not blaming any one party or Congress more than another. My point was that you cannot heap all the blame on the incumbent President for expenditures and deficits resulting from programs and wars of previous administrations. For Obama not to have paid the bills for legally contracted spending, would have been in violation of the Constitution.

Actually he has no problem with spending generations of Americans into endless debt. Revenge.

Read the constitution. The Pres can’t spend money that Congress hasn’t appropriated. The problem is Congress, not the Pres.
