Well one rule they need to bring in is that you can’t fillibust a Bill that you entered. I’m sure that the people who wrote the rules for congress didn’t even think of that one, but now we need it.

There was supposedly a rule that on the first day of a new session you could pass a bill (in the Senate) with only a simple majority. The idea was to make anyone who filibustered actually talk or have another Senator talk the whole time. When they missed their chance, I read that the next fight might be to define the first day of a new session. ???

I’m trying to understand the meaning of this. Isn’t that a twist-off cap?

Filibusters have almost ALWAYS been used to delay passage of a bill that would benefit people that have been denied rights. Why is it held in respect by the ‘worlds greatest deliberative body’?

I like this cartoon and have already written to my legislators demanding, politely, a change to the law. As “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington” is one of my favorite movies, I use it as a model for how one person can make a point, and perhaps a difference.Respectfully,C.

The filibuster has been used and abused by both parties. It was intended to allow a minority of Senators to block passage of a truly bad Bill. Unfortunately, in partisan times it can be used to block a bill that helps the majority party.
