@pencilkid5,yesterday:I found your comments very rude to Jim Davis. This is his choice. You don’t tell who should stop doing their thing. It’s their life. Those actions you took could have consequences, and what I just did, too. I am only telling you what may happen if this goes on, and it could lead as a shut down of comment here. I don’t want to hurt you or be a dictator, but I am trying to help you so the comments like you had yesterday don’t go in a wrong direction.

Oh, of course they do. Remember, dogs have masters; cats have staff!

I have no problem with Garf’s assessment – prefer him to the prince of this world any day John 12:31 – but I think he and his cat colleagues may be sleeping on the job a lot.

Like many forms of creative art, the quality of comic strips can be very subjective. I’ve been a fan of comics all my long life. I start my day with a smile reading the comics every day and I’m grateful for them. There have been great comics, poor comics and everything in between. In my (subjective) opinion the great classics are: Far Side, Blondie, Andy Capp, Wizard of Id, BC and, without any doubt on my part, Garfield. (Perhaps with honorable mention to Dilbert).

I read the interview with Bill Watterson as suggested by Alexikakos. It was interesting. I found Watterson to be a bit arrogant and seemingly envious of the success of Jim Davis. Calvin and Hobbes, to me, was a mildly amusing strip, but certainly up to the quality of Garfield.

Please, remember, that a comic strip creator must come up with a new idea every day. That’s 365 times a year for those of you who merely look at the comics for the pictures. Not one comic artist hits a winner every day. Yet, Jim Davis has provided an incredible number of winners for decades. I applaud him. And if one looks at comics for what they are, I think many agree that he continues to provide a goodly number of winners still today. If anyone thinks he/she can do better, I’m anxious to see him/her give it a try. I’m skeptical

I thought cats ruled the world once and that was in ancient Egypt remember y’all where people worshipped them and put saucers of milk in their graves when they died????…also when they died people shaved their eyebrows in mourning and the penalty to kill a cat was death look on Wikipedia if you don’t believe me..anyway Garfield’s got a point
