Calvin is a clever kid with a vivid imagination. A typical public school is failing him completely. He needs to be in a science magnet school that challenges him.
In panel 3, Calvin is literally opening his big mouth. Perhaps Bill Watterson drew a bit of inspiration from The Muppets with that one, since Calvin’s head looks like a Muppet head with the big mouth. Also Lucy from Peanuts.Today’s strip is at least the second time that speaking the truth has set Calvin “free:”Click here: Calvin and Hobbes (September 22, 1992)Click here: B.C. Yeah well… SADLY most schools/teachers have a very narrow-minded way of teaching… with a one-size-fits-all mentality.-Most (schools/teachers) don’t even try to make learning interesting, nothing but textbook stuff…, plenty of Fizz and NO Bang at all.
Calvin almost reminds me of Shawn Spencer from the TV-series ‘PSYCH’.-Shawn (Spencer) in some ways, fights his father’s (who was a Police Officer) every attempt to mould him the same way Calvin fights every attempt to mould him too…
I did this once. A substitute teacher kept trying to tell the class that the teacher’s log showed the class to be on a section two chapters ahead of where we actually were. After ten minutes, I blithely spoke out loud “Just shut up”..Neither the actual teacher or the substitute we seen the next year..I did pass the class, mostly out of boredom …
