Maybe they’re sick of rebuilding houses that will get wiped out in the next hurricane. Over and over and over. The government shouldn’t be in the insurance business, the government isn’t a business and doesn’t care if it loses money hand over fist.
The only ones not wanting to help storm victims are politicians…until it’s THEIR state hit by the hurricane/tornado/forest fire/drought/flood/blizzard/oil spill/zombie apocalypse. When Obama was running for office in 2008, he said we needed to start factoring the cost of responding to disasters into the federal budget. It had never occurred to me that no one budgeted for disasters. As far as the government not being in the insurance business…insurance companies have not been in the insurance business since they were allowed to trade on the stock exchange in the 1940’s. Yes, they sell insurance and they pay damages, but they do so reluctantly. The executives and stockholders are more important than the people insured. The government is supposed to regulate business and protect citizens from criminal negligence, fraud, and destruction of environment by business in the name of money and power. Respectfully,C.
Sorry Jeff, you messed up on this one…The south and north both have prejudices, but the “waffles-overweight-south” analogy is ponderous at best. Sharpen the pencil and take another shot at em….
We northerners could probably just help ourselves on this one if we weren’t sending a net outflow of our own tax dollars to southern states who refuse to pay their own bills.
Many Northerners contributed time and money to support the victims of Katrina just as individuals from around the country helped us following Sandy. Politicians, on the other hand…
I’ve had Danziger on my list of comics for a year and a half. He’s generally unfunny, ocassionally on point, one-sided to a fault, bigoted towards southerners and republicans….I’m a moderate independent and I just can’t stand this guy’s work. He must surround himself with like-minded pogues because I can’t see how anyone else could stand being around him. I just removed his cartoon from my comics list and my day got a little better.
An edit on his bio: his writing is razor-sharp; i.e. it only cuts in one direction an does so ineffectively due to being encased in uninspired, premanufactured packaging.
Sadly, it’s not one bogus comment. The Civil War never ended. I used to live in the south (my brother still does) – and some folks there are still fighting it. There are great folks there, but for many, all northerners are anathema.
Compare the “fat stats” on Miss. & Looziana with the New England states. Note that Louisiana’s life expectancy is way, way low. That’s the same Louisiana that we’re all still rebuilding…before the next big one.
Took some German friends to the Golden Corral in FLA. They couldn’t believe the mountains of flab gorging themselves at the buffet. Danziger is not exaggerating by much.
After the storm, a group of electricians from Alabama drove to the storm area to offer their services to restore power. They were SENT home because they were not part of a New Jersey union!
The people who suffered in Katrina have made several pilgrimages to the area bringing truck loads of essentials needed for those whose lives were so devastated.
Folks, the Civil War is OVER. Stop trying to rekindle the class warfare bit. Of course, it doesn’t help the South that “Honey Boo-Boo” lives down there.
Don’t blame southerners. It’s the tea party supported Republicans who are doing the damage, and in particular Speaker Boehner who doesn’t believe he has to keep his word. These people were elected by a number of hyper-wealthy “conservatives” who want a cowed and subservient working class dependent on them for survival.
Regarding those southern electricians “turned away” in NJ because they weren’t union members:*A good friend of mine lives in central NJ and lost his electric power due to Sandy. When a few trucks showed up on his street and started doing repairs, he went out to talk with the workers. He found that they were all from ALABAMA.*That kinda DEBUNKS the “union” story.
Every time I see a Confederate battle flag, I know there’s a total idiot attached. The number of “Waffle House” restaurants in the south, does bear witness to Danziger’s ‘toon. But the “did you save enough room for lunch” covers a “broader” perspective on one of America’s greatest problems. When we have trouble staffing that “volunteer” military, because too many kids are morbidly obese, we have a national problem. (and btw, that study, “slightly” overweight isn’t a real problem, but morbidly obese people DO die younger.
Snopes’ is legit. please note the word “may”, and “reportedly” in the title of the link. the msn probably had a follow up or clrification on this, if not, they are part of the problem.

Whatever happened to “One for all and all for one!”?
Maybe, “United we stand and divided we fall!”?

You really should do your research Mr. Danzinger.

Of course you did NOT bother to read all of the posts on this particular thread (just one of the reasons you always sound so incredibly misinformed).
In this particular case Dredpiraterobt$ wrote a post that you should read as it totally counters this fallacious anti union story!!
