‘maybe mass shootings but not mass killings’A mass shooting is where one misses a lot and a mass killing is where one doesn’t?

So in China all the attacks on children with cars and knives are just an aberration, Mr Rogers?

“So in China all the attacks on children with cars and knives are just an aberration, Mr Rogers?”False equivalency. How many instances have there been anywhere of one person stabbing 26 people to death in a single public rampage before being stopped?

Yes, and Rush Limbaugh says that all mass killers are liberals. It follows from logic.

So you have no problem with a lack of funding and availability for mental health services? The fact that this person was mentally ill plays no role? You’re excusing the killer in favor of blaming society.

Listen to the pathetic ramblings of an organization that is more bent on possession than human life. Where are the alien abductors when we need them?

I’ll use Jase99’s line of thinking to answer this one:

False equivalency. How many instances have there been anywhere of one person ran over 26 people to death in a single public rampage before being stopped?

Guns are now killing more people than cars, congratulations.

In a ten year period, 33 police officers WERE killed, in HOMICIDES, by cars being used as weapons. Handguns however, killed over 500 POLICE OFFICERS in the same time period. Rifles WERE used less often. Knives, less than cars, and blunt weapons did take their share.

If police, firemen, and school children are repeatedly, INTENTIONAL victims of gun violence, as opposed to accidental deaths, maybe we need to have people shower with guns as well, to defend themselves from those very lethal bathtubs? Don’t forget falls for ladders. We must also limit electricity to eliminate shock hazard? (GFIs have helped a lot on that, just as seat belts, air bags, and “crush space” in cars have significantly lowered death tolls.)

Though unlike kids or Mall shoppers who find themselves being shot at, smokers smoke voluntarily

I favor strict gun control, But at same time I do not see any correlation between mass shootings and availability of guns.

However there does seem to be a strong correlation between gun homicide ( 8392 in past year) and mass shootings (893 in past 10 years). The USA has a gun violence homicide rate 12 times higher than the average of western civilization, now it is true than non-gun homicide tends to double, which in the USA accounts for 1/5 (total is 12,402 ) homicides.

So lets say 3/5’s of those deaths are preventable that would be 20.4 lives saved per day. Within 44 days you would have saved more lives than those whom have passed away in the past 10 years from mass shootings. Never mind that there is nearly 2x more casualties due to guns used in “defense”

Statistically it is true that theft and assault go up by 50%, that said homicide as a total goes down by 70%. Now considering theft and assault equate to 1/4 of all homicides. You finish with a choice between

    a lot of dead people

    a few more injured people

Nobody that I know of (even your hated liberals) is even suggesting that honest target shooting, and hunting should not be allowed. Safe guns and ownership is fine with me. But military and police type Assault Weapons should at best only be available in highly regulated shooting clubs and ranges.

Plus, almost any police person or department will tell you that such weapons are NOT very good for home defense. Bullets have a tendency to go astray, and harm perfectly innocent people other than the criminal being shot at.

A shotgun full of even rock salt is quite sufficient for scaring the life out of a criminal, without the chance of harming innocent people (sometimes even including members of the very family that is being protected)!

Granted, but that is a secondary purpose, just like some people can live in a car or use it as a weapon…But the purpose of the gun is to shoot, its inherently violent

Of course, I have both hunted and gone target shooting, but a licensed gun would have presented no problem with either.

@onguardmost people, and the law, do not consider sperm, eggs, zygotes, embryo’s and fetuses the same as ‘infants’.as for the right to privacy, it’s what james madison called it. but i suppose you know more about the constitution than james madison, and other federlists – hamilton and washington.while we’re at it, there are many exceptions to the fourth amendment – warrants being notable. there are also excpetions to the first amendment – shouting fire in a crowded theater that is not on fire, slander, libel: i guess exceptions to amendments are satisfactory to you. how about some common-sense exceptions to the 2nd amendment?
