Otis had been working on Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay he still had to replace a whistled verse thrown in as a placeholder with additional lyrics that he’d yet to write…………. He was killed in a plane crash on his way to a concert in Madison, Wisconsin Dec 10 1967. “Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay” was released in its “unfinished” form several weeks later, with Redding’s whistled verse a seemingly indispensable part of song. It was the first posthumous #1 hit and the biggest pop hit of Redding’s career.

1967 – I was 14 years old growing up in Indianapolis. Grew up in a racially balanced neighborhood. Most of my favorite singers were black. I went from kindergarten thru high school with the same friends. Black & white. We are still friends. To us racism is something that’s going on in the rest of the world! Truly God has blessed us !! May He bless you in 2013 !!
