While visiting Assisi we saw two monks standing in a piazza, conversing. We wondered if their discussion was theological or liturgical. Though we couldn’t hear what they were saying, it was apparent from their gestures (feeling the material of each other’s robes, showing off their footwear) that they were showing off their “outfits.” Probably comparing bargains. So funny, so human.

Luther was not an anti-semite in the way people would understand it today.

I have been wearing Keens for years, year round with socks! My fashionista relatives roll their eyes, but my feet are clean and comfy!!!

There are a number of Buddhist temples here in San Francisco, and it’s not uncommon to see monks and monkesses walking around downtown. They’ve got the close-cropped hair (both male and female) and they wear the robes (burgundy, mostly), but underneath they all seem to have modern, sensible, practical footwear.
