Add first-shooter video games and movie plots that glorify assault weapons and you’ll have the recipe to help restore some semblance of sanity to our culture.

Wow, it must have taken hours to draw all the weapons in this cartoon. They far exceed the number of weapons that will be destroyed because of this incident.

Australia had a voluntary buy-back program, and it seemed to have worked. I don’t think anybody is advocating that we “send the police door to door”….

“Just across the highway from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in a stately white building with an American flag flying out front, is the headquarters of the United States’ premiere industry association for gun retailers.

It’s not the consumer-focused National Rifle Association. The National Shooting Sports Foundation has kept a lower profile over the years, but is likely the second-most-powerful force for firearms use in the country."………………………. http://www.tnr.com/blog/plank/111148/three-miles-tragic-shooting-bastion-gun-rights#………………………. In Newtown, CT…

“The police department logged more than 50 gunfire complaints this year through July, double the number for all of 2011, records show. Some of the complaints raised another issue. Gun enthusiasts here, as elsewhere in the country, have taken to loading their targets with an explosive called Tannerite, which detonates when bullets strike it, sending shock waves afield. A mixture of ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder, Tannerite is legal in Connecticut, but safety concerns led Maryland this year to ban it.

Mr. Faxon, the police commission member, who is a lawyer, said he wrote the new ordinance, which would have imposed additional constraints on shooting, including limited hours, and a requirement that any target shooting range, and the firearms that would be used there, be approved by the chief of police to make sure they were safe. This was no liberal putsch, Mr. Faxon said; three of the five commission members are Republicans, and two members are police officers.

“I’ve hunted for many years, but the police department was getting complaints of shooting in the morning, in the evening, and of people shooting at propane gas tanks just to see them explode,” Mr. Faxon said."………………… http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/17/nyregion/in-newtown-conn-a-stiff-resistance-to-gun-restrictions.html?ref=us&_r=1&…………………Sounds like guns were making a big noise in Newtown, was anybody listening?

No. Newtown is what you get when you worship an ideal instead of accept reality.

lets add all the nuclear weapons in the US arsenal, as well as all the other murderous weapons in the US military, as well as all the lethal weapons that the cops use to terrorize us with. then we’ll feel safe enough to disarm.do you really doubt that we are heading for a police state, as the capitalist class steps up its terrorist tactics on us?there won’t be any serious attempts to hurt the arms capitalists’ profits (regulate weapons) until the working class fightback really gets going and the rulers get panicky.

Let’s make something clear. GUNS DO KILL. If there is anyone so misinformed about that read last Friday’s paper. GUNS KILL.

“you leftist will take any excuse to give your fascist bureaucrats a monopoly on force, won’t you?”\

Yeah, we’re really grasping at straws here, aren’t we? A couple dozen little kids get gunned down at school, and we’ll never let you hear the end of it.

@rightsrightpardon me, but it seems like you that might not be smart enough to get it. the mom had 6 modern guns, some assault weapons, and she’s not with us anymore. MURDERED BY HER OWN GUN.seems like that happens alot.hmmm, if the assault weapons ban was still in effect there would be some 27 people alive today, in just this incident.

Again if we are going to insist on owning these monstrous things we need to be held responsible for making sure they do not get into the hands of the mentally ill.

It appears cartoonists are just as dumb as politicians. The cause was mental illness, Asperger’s Syndrome, and a severe lack of professional help for parents or sufferers. We have an autism spectrum epidemic that needs public attention.

There were two armed officers at Columbine who shot at Eric Harris but couldn’t stop the carnage. It’s a good thing the officers didn’t hit any innocent bystanders when they missed Harris.

For all you people who “think” (and I use that word loosely) banning weapons will solve problems… how has banning meth, crack, heroin, marijuana worked out for ya?
