    the thing with NOT insisting on being involved in the project (even as a menial drone)- means you don’t get the grade and the one who did all the work gets the A+.

    I think “group projects” are really a form of socialism. At least in the workplace, the job assignments are usually handled by a supervisor, who is responsible for the individual performance reviews. Sometimes it takes longer for a slacker to be identified, but sooner or later, they are dealt with. But in school, you don’t have the luxury of waiting for the slacker to be identified by the teacher, if you’re the hard worker, you suffer either way. Lower grade, or do all/most of the work.

    Group projects would be fine, if grades were based on the individual’s contribution. Say, if one person did the presentation, then their grade would reflect if it was done well or poorly. If someone else was in charge of visual aids, their grade would be based on that area. Just like in the real work world – unless of course, you’re in a union, and your raises aren’t based on merit.
