I’m guessing the demon meant ‘that venue was pure evil’

This is sort of like your mother-in-law being bitten by a snake and after 3 weeks of intense pain the poor snake died.

It’s very simple. That guy ‘was’ evil. Now that the demon is gone he is no longer evil.
