The food industry spent $45 million to defeat prop 37, which would have required "organic" foods in California to be labeled "GMO" if they were genetically modified.
Man: Radioactivity is organic.
I’ve never understood the objections to Genetic Modification. Every piece of food we eat has been genetically modified over the centuries. Long before Grego Mendel, farmers have been cross-breeding and selecting crops and food animals to make them bigger, hardier, and tastier. Now they can evolve the plants and animals in one generation of growth in ways that would have taken decades via the standard route. There is no radiation involved. No mutations in the crops carry over and ‘infect’ the human consumer. Now you can add genes to make the apples more resistant to worms and insects. Result: Pesticide use becomes unnecessary. —>. Better organic apples.
Curare is all natural, too. There is a difference between cross breeding plants to get the best ones, and taking a gene from a bacteria and splicing it into corn DNA so that it kills insect larvae.I would, however, like to have a cat that glows in the dark.
The GMO has not jumped species to milkweed. The problem is that the pollen from the corn falls on the milkweed and can be eaten by monarch caterpillars.
Knowledge is power. We in the US now have less knowledge about what goes into our bodies then people in 60 other countries do. We are guinea pigs for the food and chemical industries. Soylent green anyone?
It’s interesting that Ted Scrall isn’t so up in arms about the purchase of the Prop 32 victory by the unions in California.Gotta love his tag line too, “Tomorrow’s conventional wisdom today.” What a presumptuous twit.
Some people believe microwave ovens contain nuclear reactors. OTOH Monsanto is an evil entity if there ever was one. Some of us object to genetically modified produce because we dislike their corporate owners and business practices used to intimidate growers.
Just remember, if we were to use every acre of farmland to produce everything organically, we’d have enough food to feed 4 billion people. Trouble is, there’s over 7 people on earth.
And Monsanto and ADM have gotten laws written that if a GMO pollinates a non-GMO crop, the non-GMO farmer is at fault, and must destroy his crop, or he is guilty of “stealing”!
“The GMO has not jumped species to milkweed. The problem is that the pollen from the corn falls on the milkweed and can be eaten by monarch caterpillars.”#Great! Now monarch butterflies will have to be classified as GMO? Wonderful!!

Actually, Prop 37 would have EXEMPTED organic farmers from having to acknowledge that they used GMO.
