The same Americans who carry an average balance of $10k on their credit cards, who don’t believe federal deficits matter, who think the national debt will never come due, and who vote for Mr. Obama to get more free stuff, are in for one heckuva rude awakening. My prediction: the next four years will be worse than the last four. Hello Greece!
Patron has waitress deliver double-bacon double cheeseburger with extra mayo, fries, and a 32-ounce soft drink. Proceeds to pour 1/4 cup of salt on each bit of food before tasting it, and says,“I’m not feeling too well. Maybe after lunch I’ll go to the hospital’s emergency room for some free care.”
I’m considering giving an Obamacare credit in my practice, with a war tax to balance it out.
Costs rise. Food costs have been going up, as transportation costs have risen, and so has the price of feed and fertilizer. This makes the cost of the final product rise. Did we hear moaning and groaning from restauranteurs about that? No, prices went up at the cash register, just like everywhere else. No one said, “I can’t stay in business anymore. I have to use a surcharge. I have to lay people off.” This only started as a reaction to the fact that Romney wasn’t elected. If only there were no Obamacare, the economy would be perfect? How stupid, to cherrypick one cost that is rising and use it as a rallying cry.
Let me ask Ms. B something. Which will cost more, medications for diabetes, or paying for dialysis or amputation after an emergency room visit because of a diabetic coma? What part of “a stitch in time saves nine” do she and her like-minded co-horts not understand?
The only way to save money on prevention is to let people die when the cure is necessary. Are we ready to watch this happen? Let’s take this to its logical conclusion: who needs doctors anyway? We have Wikipedia and WebMD……..
I haven’t got my free stuff yet.I know that 3 years ago birth control pills cost $36 a month plus the cost of going to a doctor to get a prescription. That is a lot of money for some people.Birth control pills have other uses, such as regulating hormone levels and preventing mood swings.
The mandate in Obamacare was a Republican idea. I guess the only logical thing to do is get rid of it and make Obamacare a single payor system, like every other civilised country, and not have any of the costs levied to Denny’s or Papa John’s. Of course, NOT eating at either of those establishments will probably lower healthcare costs…
Mr. fart, I agree with you whole heartedly. In order to get contraceptives, a lady must have a prescription from a physician for an approved contraception method. I’d much rather pay for this than pre-natal care, birth of and care for a baby and WIC payments for how long? ACA will also pay for voluntary sterilization which will aid older ladies who do not want more children (for those with insurance), If only this had been around years ago. I believe insurance should stop paying for Viagra, etc. but instead should pay for birth control for men.
So, in order for Denny’s to be able to insure their employees I’m going to have to pay an extra 50 cents on every ten dollar purchase?Cool. That’s cheap. And since I have seen, and sadly know, people who won’t even leave a tip at Denny’s, Crackerbarrel, Waffle House, or IHOP, is helpful to the underpaid wait staff having to make do with low pay, long hours, and too many customers with attitude problems.C.

I am prepared to wait and see. I can tell you this: Medicare, Social Security, and to a lesser degree Medicaid were raided over the past few decades to finance wars without raising taxes. Never put it back.
The post office is where it is because it was required to pay for pensions for everyone in one lump payment. Any other entity that can afford to do that? Also, the rise of e-mail had a lot to do with the decrease in postal usage. Things change, and when they do some benefit, and some lose.
As far as the government running health care: I can tell you this: private insurers often pay less than what they “offer”. And no one will be able to tell you why: just accept it. Also, premiums continue to go up while coverage continues to become less. Medicare and Medicaid pay me what they say they will, and when they say they’ll do it. Medicare uses less than 3% of its budget in administrative costs. Private insurers are capped at 20% by Obamacare, and many of us received rebates because the companies were spending even more than that.
Medicare does not have to make a profit, or pay stockholder dividends. American doctors have to pay their staffs for an average of 20.6 hours a week for contact with insurance companies. Canadian doctors’ staffs spend an average of less than three hours per week. Time is money.
Obamacare is not the best answer. Single payer always has been. But private insurers will always put profit over health care, and forcing people to buy from them is corporate welfare.
Still, I’ll wait for the third act and see if I like the play. Good luck to us all.

It’s pretty cool how Dems can give away stuff for free and nobody has to pay for it. I know it defies logic, but oh well, let the good times roll.

I figure that if the job creators’ personal wealth was taxed, they’d be incentivised to invest more into the business and create more jobs, eh?
