Salon pointed out (rightly, I think) that the scandal is important not because of Petraeus himself, but because of how easily an FBI agent could crack private emails just because he got it into his head, and with no legal restrictions (and probably no repercussions).

How I miss the old days when you could have an illicit affair in peace.

It appears the “pecker pusher” was the FBI agent sending notes to Kelly, and Cantor. Fire him, jail him, and send Cantor out of the Congress. Kelly should NOT be given the reality TV show she seems to be seeking.

When the guy in charge of what is arguably the most secret organization in the US is being spied on in the bedroom you do have to wonder if we haven’t gone a bit far.

Topless guy shouldn’t get fired. He should just be reassigned to duty as a bouncer at a strip club. In Alaska. In winter. And be required to go shirtless. Outside.

The FBI doesn’t fire people; they counsel them, put a note in their files, and maybe give them a couple of weeks unpaid leave.

Perhaps – but the FBI won’t have any real repercussions. The firing will be for something like sexual harassment rather than abusing national security systems — which they won’t want to discuss in court.
