Fortunately kids are always extremely kind if you’re different.

I remember the ads too. I believe the brand was “Hathaway shirts”.

There was a kid in my old school that had a patch on one eye.

I remember that kids at school were usually a bit envious of kids who were a bit different.

I had to wear a patch once, but I was an adult, and it was because I had eczema on my eyelid. The patch went on the rashy eye so that the other eye wouldn’t want to close to “match”. It was extremely awkward, and I got more comments at work that I probably would have gotten if I were in school!

The whole eye patch for lazy eye thing did not work.

I’ve been teaching a course in 1950s culture, and we work a lot with old issues of Life magazine. Those Hathaway ads were a regular feature!

Indeed, the Hathaway man was an early version of the “Most Interesting Man in the World.”

I remember those ads being parodied a lot in MAD Magazine (also in the movie ‘The Mouse That Roared’.)What gets me in this strip is that mirror with its non-reversed reflection.

My sister wore one of those for a while when she was a kid. Ironically, her name is also Sally.

That patch does seem to switch eyes, Reminds me of Kramer on Seinfeld..You can see some Classic POGO strips appearing Daily at Andy Capp.

As a child I too had a “lazy eye” and wore a patch for several hours a day as while I did my daily regimen of eye exercises

In a mirror image, the patch should be on the other side.

I had to wear a thing over glasses when I was in 8th grade for lazy eye, because they didn’t catch it until then. It sorta helped. …. And I thought the guy in the eye patch was Arrow shirts, hmmm.
