Also I recently ready on a geek site that a short, “strong” password is indeed, as Kylie2112 says, more easily hackable than a really long, “weak” one which could be even more memorable for humans – like the one Plods with Beer created. So, go for fifteen memorable characters whenever possible.
@underwriter I recommend using a service like LastPass so all passwords are different, as long as possible, and completely random characters. Then you just need to remember your password for LastPass (and maybe use the same password for your GMail account), which can be four random words such as this site generates: http://preshing.com/20110811/xkcd-password-generator . This way you only need to remember one password and it’s easy to remember if you visualize it. I got: presidentlipsmixfox. Yeah, that visualization will stick.

And it’s still easy as hell for a computer to guess, compared to four 5-7 letter words (which are easy for humans to remember).
