When i was about five, I asked my Mom why my parents bought gifts for grandma and grandpa, and other reletives but they didn’t get us kids anything. only Santa gave us presents. Which was when she also told me the truth about Santa. When my kids were small, we always gave them a couple of gifts marked from Mom and Dad too.
My brother used to either threaten or beat secrets out of us, my cousin and me. One time he threatened to knock over the tree and ruin everybody’s Christmas if we didn’t tell him what we knew.
My wife said that when she was a little girl, she snooped and found the green dress mom had bought for her.Was she surprised when she opened up the package C’mas morning and it was a blue dress!!(Ma had decided to exchange it in the meantime)
I’ve told this one before, but when I was in, like, second grade, some of my classmates said they knew who Santa was. But they wouldn’t tell me. So I went home and told Mom this, and asked who Santa was. She said, “Do you really want to know?” I said I did, and she said, “It’s your mom and dad.”I thought to myself, “That makes sense!” and immediately felt grateful for everything they’d done to create that magic for me. I’ve read about some people’s lives being ruined by finding out the truth, going into therapy, suing their parents, etc. It’s all in one’s mindset, how he or she looks at things, and maybe dependent on how they’ve been treated in other areas.

When I was a kid Santa brought most of the presents, but the adults also gave a few themselves.

this is why I am not taking my grandchildren shopping for their parents until RIGHT before Christmas……less time for the youngest one to tell.
