The JSF must be an American ‘plane [ yeah, I know, the F35]…that’s a trough filled with green. If it was the Eurofighter Typhoon, the trough would be filled with grey, green, blue, red, orange, purple and yellow.
One of Obama’s early accomplishments was to kill the alternative engine for the F-35 reducing government spending. Boehner fought against it on the grounds that it would cost jobs in his district. I believe Ryan was also against it, but I have to data.-Of course, Boehner was also trumpeting that ‘government can’t create jobs’ at the same time.
F-35, more expensive junk to “replace” the F-22 which was shot down because it was junk. Funny, the F-35 was supposed to be cheaper, and is now much more expensive, which is why other countries are backing out of their contracts.
Yes ruff, might check on Lynne’s “association” with Lockheed when the money was being lined up.
the bigger question is does a nation need a jsf? the cost to build one plane could be used to better infrastructure, more cops to battle crime, more teachers to teach kids and lower class size, and etc…the guns or butter debate.
^Simply put, “purpose built” aircraft, like the F-16, F-18, or A-10 are “best bets”. When they try to make one airframe do all jobs, they are ALWAYS fiscal, and strategic, failures.
^btw: the “purpose” of the F-22, and now F-35 is to get within 100 miles of the target aircraft, and launch a missile. The Chinese air force has enough aircraft to run ours out of missiles, and proceed, because the “engineers” say we don’t really need to install guns on “interceptor aircraft” any more.
I had a great photograph of an F-4 “old smokie” (that someone stole from my locker when I was once reported KIA) that was GREAT, as this Marine had just dropped a rack of napalm to land behind me at just the right spot, just in time. Yes, it was a viable “cross purpose” machine in the right hands. but I still see the A-10 as my favorite to support our ground pounders.
