Apparently, he won “miss congeniality”; cause he sure doesn’t look ANYTHING like Vitamin!

(They might have their ages in common, but, that’s about IT!)

Wasn’t Sunny Wheat the company that sponsored the Moon Maid lookalike contest that Sparkle Plenty won?

Walt seems to have aged considerably since the Sunday strip.

Walt looks a lot younger here than he looks in Gasoline Alley.

Huh? Something suspicious going on here since they looking nothing alike.

Old Walt is a WW I USN vet, so I think he looks real good.

I would never mistake Walt Wallet for Vitamin Flintheart. Something about this contest seems suspicious. But I’ll wait to see where this storyline goes over the next couple of days….

You know those contests — “You may have just won a million dollars,” etc.Maybe Walt was the contest’s only entrant.

Ah, you might have something there… DT vs. CROOKED telemarketing schemes aimed at the aged! (My own parents are in their mid 70s and they get several calls by these con men every week)

Fortunately, my parent’s faculties are still sharp and, when something seems legit, they have me check them out on Snopes or the newswires online, just to be safe!

Day-Day beat me to it on answering the question about Sunny Wheat. As part of her prize, Sparkle got to take her family on a trip to the moon. B.O., Gertie and daughter on a wild flight of fancy.

Gotta say, Team Tracy, this one came outta left field, rounded third and slid into home!

I think when Walt went before the contest judge he took off his glasses so he would look more like Vitamin. He asked one of the assistants to hold them for him. When the judge was looking for his glasses, the assistant handed him Walts. The rest is history. (grin)

I’m not sure I like the way Staton portrays Walt Wallet, different from the “other Joe” (Scancarelli)’s “official” version on GA. However, it looks “Gouldian”.

I’ve always thought they looked like twins! lol

Just remember—Charlie Chaplin once finished third in a Charlie Chaplin look alike contest….

Hey, I’m not complaining. It’s good to see Walt out and about. Maybe next he can do a guest spot on Tarzan?

didnt walt have a heart attack or somethign years ago? i also seem to remember him having alzheimers too but i could be crossing comics here. i dotn see why everyone is so shocked to see him here (aside from teh fact that he is still in an ACTIVE strip of course) since weve already seen “terry and the pirates” show up as well as “brenda starr”… maybe joe is auditioning for the pencilling duties on gasoline alley? lol! :) i cant help but think that “THIS is what they killed measles off for.. a guest appearance by walt wallet?” lol

I’m sure my buddy, Vitamin Flintheart is on the up-and-up, so unless he got roped into something unknown to him, Walt is in good hands.

2 longtime comic strip icons crossover!

I think it’s kind of neat to see Walt Wallet in “DT.” It’s been previously established that “DT” and “Gasoline Alley” are in the same universe, so to speak—several years back, Slim Skinner’s truck was stolen in “GA” and it turned out the thieves were being pursued by Tracy (drawn in a very nice 1940s-Gould style by Jim Scancarelli). Since Tracy has appeared in “GA,” why not have Walt appear here?And, since we’re seeing Vitamin in this sequence, I thought I’d ask something I’ve wondered every time he’s shown up in recent years: Vitamin was once married to Snowflake Falls, who was part of the Shaky storyline back in the forties. I read that story in a paperback collection in the ’70s and the book ended with Snowflake in the hospital in dire condition with Vitamin at her side. Did she survive? Are they still married?

I LOVE the cross over concept. It helps keep our beloved comic strips alive. I would love to see BRENDA STARR make a long term appearance. (Meaning, more than a one or two day appearance). Now that the Sunny Wheat contest is being thrown into the story, it’s yet another tie to the original MOON MAID! I say bring it on!

IMHO … Joe, Mike, Shelley, Shane and Jim are the best team working in syndicated continuity comics today.

Ah, Walt…by Gasoline Alley reckoning he’s around 110 now. Nice to see him here, this and GA are two old comics that are still looking good.

Clearly, Walt looks less unlike Vitamin Flintheart than any of the other contest entrants. That’s assuming that there actually were other entrants.

I’m a day late to this party but I’m just now getting to my online Sunday funnies…and what a treat! Both DT & GA were among my favorites in the Washington Post back when as a kid. To this day Dick Tracy and Gasoline Alley are 1 & 2 on my daily reading list.

As noted above Tracy has been a guest on GA a time or two at a time when to some it seemed the future of DT was waning. Nice to see some recip now that DT has been revived.

Jim Scancarelli renders some very intricate and artful graphics, even in the cramped confines of the current dailies.

So – once again, thanks to Mike and Joe…and Jim!

It was Walt’s family members Slim and Clovia who won a Montezoomba Triple E Model Super 8 in a contest (storyline started 09/14/12). Hijinx ensued.

We already had a Brenda Starr crossover back on November 10 2011, when Tracy called Hank O’Hair.

Everyone else must have come in second.

I always wondered why twilight is so popular while gloaming never seemed to catch on. As far as I can tell they are the same thing, or maybe gloaming is the time just before dark, while twilight is the time just before day?Any experts on proper usage of the two words?

How about a crossover with Peanuts so Snoopy can fight Mugg?

I’m thinking this new story might center around contests scamming people. There are legit contests, like buying a chance to have a date with Moon Maid for just a measly $25 entry fee….

jz27wk said, 1 day agoHad to check the dates, but Tracy first appears in the GA strip on 9/5/2006, when Slim calls the police and Tracy answers on his 2-way wrist radio. He helps them to solve the murder of Chester Dloug (why does that name sound familiar??) with the help of BO Plenty (seen 9/22 and 9/23) before leaving on 10/4 to celebrate his 75th anniversary with Tess. Also a reference to the Big Boy case, Tracy’s first in the comics.
