My kids (aged 5 and 2) love broccoli, especially if we steam it and drizzle a little (and I mean VERY little, not drowning like in a casserole) melted cheese on it.

I never ate broccoli nor many vegetables at all when I was a kid. I was the quintessential picky eater, but now that I am older, I relish the thought of trying new foods and foreign cuisines, and it sort of shows in the waistline area, lol.

My family has always loved broccoli but we hated spinach. One thing they could do for a start is make sure the kids take multi vitamins every day.

That’s a good way to get them to hate cookie dough…

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!! That’s nasty! I have on the other hand managed to sneak zucchini, squash and, weirdly enough, beets into cookies, cupcakes and cake and my nieces have no idea they’re getting their veggies. I even once let my niece have an oatmeal cookie before dinner that had squash or something in it and it was nice and sweet and she was so awe struck, but it was our little secret from daddy, Auntie Kay letting her have cookies before a dinner where she didn’t eat any veggies. ;)

No one is really sure why some kids are born with spina bifida, but doctors and scientists have found some possible reasons. They’ve learned that folic (say: foh-lik) acid is very important, especially when a baby is growing inside its mother. Folic acid is one of the B vitamins found in foods like broccoli, spinach, egg yolks, and oranges. If a woman doesn’t have enough folic acid in her diet while she’s pregnant, she may be more likely to have a baby with spina bifida. Luckily, special vitamins containing folic acid are available for pregnant women.

So eat your broccoli! Be healthy. :)
