However in the context of the cartoon, what happens when they stop feeding the birds?
Simply the birds fly to a more, ‘birdfriendly’ environment.
It is human nature along with bird nature to take the path of least resistance after all.
Unfortunately, all the good intention in the world cannot sift through those simply taking ‘the path of least resistance’ and those with unquestioned hardship.
Hmmmmm, Keen eye motive. Perhaps a simple oversight?
Tell me, do you look at ‘Bad Reporter’?
The reason I am now coming to these comics that my sister kept sending me ‘Bad Reporter’ comics. She said I could go to My Comics and subscribe to it there. The rest is, as they say, history. Anyway, I have found much of Bad Reporter excruciatingly funny! (trust me, BOTH the left and right are lampooned.) If you have been there, hope you enjoyed as much as me.
:)

To get back to the bird comment…. if you feed birds and decide to stop, DO NOT stop during the winter or anytime there is a food shortage in local environment. (ie drought etc)
babka,
I find the inclusion of Cardinal Mahony’s quote an interesting choice in light of the Catholic Church’s conduct in Ireland. (exclusive of the various other scandals)
Well as I read these posts I realize that we fail not only our birds, but our old people, and our children.
NEOCON: I know that you meant (I hope) your post as a joke, but the reality is that hundreds of thousands of people in America who don’t work eat very well, live in great houses, dress well, often get drunk and into trouble, but nothing happens to them, and their numbers are growing. They are the children of the very, very rich. Think Paris Hilton and friends. How about we take some of their money and help sick children and old people, or it more important that they be allowed to use it on $1,000 shoes, and $3,000 blue jeans?
There use to be a means to do this it was called an Inheritance Tax, but, thanks to Republicans and the Rich, it has been gutted.
Bird feeders help a lot of migrants (birds) as their natural food sources have been destroyed by “development”. Even overseas, we’re losing habitat for breeding, and thus, bird populations. Interesting that so many of those jobs folks used to have, have been shipped “overseas”, so that many unemployed have no “contributory” source of income left.
Such is the miracle of misplaced capitalism, that is NOT even “Capitalism”, but a feudal system that has nearly destroyed our country.
Yes, “freeloaders” ARE a bit of a pain to those who still work, but a lot of those who used to complain about them, are now “birds of the feather” themselves, unemployed, out of luck, and still ready to blame the wrong people for their plight.
All that stuff now MADE in “third world countries” is why we now have no manufacturing capacity left here at home, from steel, to cars, to blue jeans- it’s a case of self-emolation.
Ken did you hear yourself? You essentialy want to steal what others have either earned or their fathers & mothers have earned. It is NOT yours to take or distribute as you or any body else deems fit to do.That is the infantile mentality on the left that has destoyed nations and families throughout history.
ahab, I water spray the area under my bird feeder couple of times a week, hope that takes care of the problem you mentioned. I love to watch/listen to hummingbirds and change their sugar water feed once a week because mold can grow it. Love to watch the bluejays take a “bath” too. Can hear birds in their nest at night, but not sure which of the three types of birds that frequent my yard is up there.
babka, good collection of quotations. And yes, Cardinal Mahoney’s quote reflects the hypocrisy of the church for all its years of covering up pedophiles.
davesmith, I understand your point, but we have created tax shelters for the wealthy that allow them to escape even minimal taxation, and frequently pay far less taxes proportionately than middle-class workers. Some of that passed on wealth has never been taxed a single dime. In general, I don’t like the concept of inheritance tax, but when reality is factored in, sometimes it’s the only tax that wealth will ever subjected to.
shoot, when my grandmother died, we had to pay both state (Okla) and federal death taxes, and around the same time there were newspaper accounts of Jackie Kennedy’s estate not having to pay any taxes at all because of shelters and other ways of getting around. Ticked me off!

Danziger is truly dense. It’s liberals who have trouble distinguishing animals from humans, but D. has it backwards.

Well she could just let that bird that needs a little nourishing(mending a broken wing), to get on its feet or let it die.
I dont recall when signing up for military them asking for your insurance card before treating you on the battle field.

john - I have seen Bad Reporter, but haven’t looked at it regularly. I think I probably should…

If I remember my Hitchock movies correctly, if we stop feeding them they start eating us.

“The Birds” (Hitchcock) is a good example to use to watch out for the new proposed health care plan. Once it starts, watch out…it will only get worse!
