It’s the little things in life…..This one is charming!russell5419 thanks for clearing that up kind of obvious from context, will have to look up the origins. Maybe from the old times when purple was a color only the very wealthy could afford.I think there were laws that only royals could wear it.

I remember reading this comic as a kid when it ran in the SF Chronicle in the ’60’s thinking it was the dumbest comic ever. Now that I’m closer to 60 than 50 years old, I really like it. It is charming and maybe I’m getting more nostalgic….

My dad used to like this comic and I never really understood why, so now that he is gone, I decided to give it a lengthy try. I’ve discovered that it is quite charming, doesn’t try to be overtly funny, which would make it boring like some animal comics. It just goes for innocent, feel-good comfort. No drama, no pathetic failed attempts at being funny. Just a lighter side of life from a dog’s eye view.

    This is from wiktionary:

“purple patch (plural purple patches)A period of excellent performance, where nearly everything seems to go right, work properly, and contrasting with a more general lower level of performance. The England team hit a purple patch just after half-time, where they scored 3 goals in 10 minutes, but in the end they were lucky to escape with a 3-3 draw.”
