Aaaah, the smell of mimeo was almost as good as the smell of leaded gas.

The mention of mimeo ink/copies brings back fond memories – and that delicious scent… I could type better on a typewriter before computers, too. Maybe it had something to do with the need to type accurately, because it was not easy to correct a mistake.

Jeannie, yes I do remember the smell as I had to do many of them in my job. Plus I have to add the onion skin paper that was used with the carbon paper in legal offices for copy. Oh and even worse of a dinosaur than Earl…my first job was on a manual typewriter!

I heard of a first-grader who would always scribble through the worksheets the teacher handed out. Both his mother and the teacher were puzzled because the child was bright and generally well-behaved. When asked, the child replied, “It’s those damn purprle monsters!”

I loved the smell of mimeographed paper. And when you typed the stencil, the ribbon had to be disconnected in the typewriter. If a mistake was made, there was a special rubber-type ink that was painted on the stencil. You waited until it dried and you retyped the word.
