In the early days of the telephone the Hook Switch would light a lamp on the operator’s console when the receiver was lifted. The lamp (light) indicated that the that line was in use. Clicking the hook switch would cause the lamp to flash.

So long ago that would have worked (if no one cut the phone line).

In the LASSIE TV show the phone was on the wall and had to be cranked!

Isn’t the armor made of iron? If it is, then all they would need is a magnet. That would stop him in his tracks.

He’s going power hungry just like Iron Monger did when he built his suit from the scraps they found in the desert. Will the fish come back and fight for justice like Tony did?!?

I’m surprised Poncho couldn’t pick up a party line on his phone! That was fun, when we moved to the country when I was 12, I picked up the phone once and was surprised to hear a conversation going on. I soon learned the ring numbers for various neighbors, and yeah, I was a naughty little girl! When my parents were outside or in the basement, or out of the room, I would pick up the phone and listen in! LOL!

11921 — dial that and hang up and you ring all the phones on your party line. Call your neighbor or the extension phone in the basement!

For phones with number pads, pressing the switch meant disconnecting, as in hanging up the phone by putting the receiver on it. Therefore, one would manually press the switch without putting the receiver down to redial the number.
