We have hundreds of bridges in disrepair, some even rated as dangerous. Our electricity grid is outdated and vulnerable to physical and cyber attacks. Our schools are producing students unprepared for the jobs we need them to do and so overweight and out of shape physically as to make over 300 US military officers express concern for our ability to have a military ready populace. The list goes on, but the gist of the problem is this, if we don’t invest dollars into our country and people, we will cease to be the most powerful nation on the planet. We may remain the most dangerous, but we won’t have the moral or financial authority to lead as we used to.Respectfully,C.

Rick Scott turned down over $2 billion federal money for light rail. Then he disagrees with Obamacare so he turned down that federal money. Then Hurricane Issac did some damage and Rick Scott asked the federal government for $36 million aid.He was turned down so now he is blaming Obama for the hurricane,That is the depth to which the Republicans and the country have sunk.

C Downs: But doing anything would violate the edicts of Ryan’s goddess, and therefore all Republicans (and a few Democrats) must oppose such action. Mammon is the US established religion.

Harley says, “There is tat 3 letter word again….” Yes, “tat” is a 3 letter word; “that”, however, is a 4 letter word.

Some, but obviously not all of us, are aware that the 2009 stimulus package kept the engine from siezing, but was not adequate to blast us out of the chasm we were in. We are steadily climbing out, and more folks are coming to that realization. This contributes to the accelerating Romney campaign failure. But, if you want to see people working, generating earnings to bring demand back to the economy so that private business get to firing on all cylinders, a bold and more massive infrastructure rebuilding plan could be just the ticket.See:http://www.businessinsider.com/infrastructure-spending-program-2012-6?op=1Of course, we’re talking that dreaded government spending. But dammit folks, it works!Being a perpetual optimist, I am holding out for Obama’s opposition to back down and let us move forward with these kinds of positive programs once the failure of their four year objective becomes complete, November 6th.

Obama’s failure to close the Guantanamo Bay prison is one of many reasons I am not voting FOR Obama as much as I’m voting against the extreme party the Republicans have become. During WW2, German, Italian, and Japanese prisoners of war were interred in the USA, even in my own city, but Republicans-stating fears of terrorist attacks-have not allowed Obama to open any facilities on the continental USA. I fear this is so they can use questioning technmiques, ie, torture, to get info from those being held. The FBI has proven in its long history to have great success in getting info from prisoners through sympathetic techniques, much more success than torture has rendered. We do have alot to do.Respectfully,C.

btw: the toon is looking at the Romney/Ryan plans, on everything. Obama’s biggest problem on closing Guantanamo, which I DID and DO support, is that doing so would open a whole can of worms with the World Court on the illegalities of that camp, built on U.S. TERRITORY on the island of Cuba, which we retained when WE granted Cuba independence after the Spanish/American War. A whole lot of “Bushies” would be subject to prosecution, including Cheney, Gonzales, Rumsfeld, etc, etc.. That is why the Republicans have been so opposed to moving prisoners to safe, secure, and undisclosed locations, on the mainland.
