Phil: So your mom found romance. I think it's great. Val: We don't know anything ABOUT him. Phil: Well, I'm sure your MOM does. Val: That's not the point. Phil: What IS the point? Val: My mother has a secret LIFE! Phil: It's not secret. She sent you a picture. Val: Quit being logical. You're spoiling my outrage.

Outrage is bad for your blood pressure anyways.

He’s used to dealing with irrational and irritated people.

It’s all been said by prior posters…I’m glad that Phil is talking sense to Val.

Now she knows how Holly feels about her dating Phil. You just don’t want to think of your mother that way!

It’s not that she has a secret life, just a part of her life that doesn’t include Val so Val feels left out. Evie has a right to happiness and Val needs to live with it.

Anyone think these two will break up?

No. Phil will be a steading inflouence on Val. Another opionion always helps. SS is so great as a comic strip close to real life.
My mom just wants to remain faithfull to dad’s memory. If another man even younger looks at her she has fun with it. And me and my sister give her a hard but fun time about it.

It’s different when it’s one’s Mom.

I love Phil’s grin in panel 3. He’s so amused by the whole thing.

Um, Evie is an autonomous adult. She is not accountable to anyone for what she does. Maybe she’s been living with her daughters too long without living her own separate life with them.

In the past, Evie has been less than forthcoming about Arnold (she’s been downright evasive at times), so she’s led a little bit of a “secret life”, but nothing outrageous. She’s kept his existence more or less on a “need to know” basis, and maybe she feels that the family now “needs to know.”

Oh, Val. Doesn’t your mom deserve to be happy?! I think she does. Go for it Evie!

^^ Unfortunately, outrage outguns logic.
