As far as I know, it was Egypt that was obstructing the Gaza Freedom March via Rafah (now lifted I think). What has the figure of Santa Claus to do with it in this cartoon? I see it is by a Jordanian cartoonist.

An allegory for some humanitarian assistance that is being brought along with those involved in the march?

As usual, a comment above without some knowledge of the cartoon’s intent. The Gaza Freedom March is an International movement, with some Israelis, protesting the siege of Gaza by the Israeli government (because Hamas is evul although democratically elected).

Besides Santa doesn’t have to dig his own tunnel. All he has to do is pay a smuggler to use his. Egyptians on the border were making good money by allowing tunnels to come up in their homes.

^Thanks thing. I guess Egypt has to work hard for its “foreign aid”.

From what I understand, Egypt has hitherto prevented the march (disclosure : a good friend of mine, an Italian microbiologist, is participating) ; hope Mr Obama remembers to pat Mr Mubarak on the head. I believe the Arabic term for such as Mr Mubarak is «kalb ibn kalb»….
