comYics I dont follow your Obamusha comment. I am not sure what you mean, although I find it unfair that they have such strong critique of Obama. His hands are tied by his own party, which is clearly more in step with business than it is in step with its own goals. Isn’t it suspicious that a democratically controlled house cannot pass a single congruent bill that goes AGAINST big business, while a minority congress who is in favour of big business CAN? If I was going to even attempt to decypher this, I would come to the conclusion that big business is the one that is really pulling the strings.
I think you’ve put your finger on a lot of the issue. Here in the States, money talks louder than constituencies in most cases. For at least the last 25 years, polls that state questions in nonpartisan ways have indicated that a clear majority of Americans support most of the Democratic platform. But money and fear mongering to keep folks in line (and voting against their self interest), has slowed progress to a crawl.
I think we’d fare better if we had a more parliamentarian form of government where we could escape some of the ills of the two party strangle hold. I also wouldn’t mind seeing publicly funded elections to reduce the influence of big money on the ability of folks to get elected.
