The world can be a sad place, and recent studies show that it may be getting even sadder. Despite continuous progress in technology, medicine and the fight against worldwide poverty, people are unhappier than they've been in years. A new survey by Gallup this year found that the world's Negative Experiences Index – the way people measure pain, sadness, anger, worry and stress – is at its highest level since 2006.
Now, here's the good news. There is an easy way to overcome all that misery – at a least for a little while. That way is laughter. Not only is laughter fun and enjoyable, it's healthy, too. Scores of medical studies over the years have found that laughter can boost your immune system, reduce pain, and help diminish stress. Children laugh hundreds of times a day. Most adults do not. Why is that? Maybe the kids are onto something?
Of course, one effective way to laugh more – and directly improve your health and well-being – is to read comics every day. Comics are quick, funny, sometimes profound, and usually spot-on about the human condition. Spend a few minutes reading comics every day, and you'll laugh and smile more, guaranteed.
