Not Gomez, but it’s in a very old Charles Addams cartoon that appeared in the New Yorker (I think in the 1930s). It’s classic – and I really like the homage to him.

It’s kind of a mobius strip in the snow…

I did something similar when I went skiing once. But the tree trunk was still small enough that I could bend it over and straddle it until I ran out of tree. I think it was at least 20’ tall, but the mountain was so steep, I couldn’t back up when I went off course. (Didn’t want to take off my ski, because I was afraid it would go downhill without me.) I always wondered what the people that skied past the tree afterwards thought when they saw my tracks.

I could do that, but I don’t want to end up like the kids in yesterday’ strip.

Old skiers’ trick: With a buddy, starting at the top of a hill, hold onto each others’ shoulders for balance and each lift your outside ski off the snow. (The two of you together are leaving one pair of tracks.) Ski toward a tree. As you approach it, let go of each other and go around it, one of you to the left and the other to the right. Then grab onto each other again and continue on for long enough that your tracks can’t be seen from the tree. Voila! Charles Addams’ cartoon re-created.
