Most of our presidents have a mixed record of some good, some great, some bad, some horrible. Bush Sr. had facilitated dirty wars in Central and South America, made things more complicated in the Middle East, and ignored the AIDS crisis here. He also helped prevent disaster during the collapse of the Soviet Union and helped guide a solid economy. Essentially, he did pretty much the same as other presidents (Obama’s record is pretty good, but he bombed a lot of civilian areas in the Middle East and deported record numbers of people on the southern border). I neither praise nor vilify him. But I do respect the dignity of every human being including him. GHWB was from a different era in which old money believed in their natural right to lead but also in noblesse oblige. If you believe in God and afterlife, then you’ll trust that he will have to square all his actions with God. But then, so will everyone. Either way, his story is over, and we still have a lot of work to do.
I’m sure that’s exactly how Trump feels about his ‘great’ contributions. I watched him at the ceremony and he was probably thinking of all the great things they would be saying about him. He was probably thinking how weak George Bush was for breaking into tears at times – although that brought me to tears.
You could also add to that list what a great father and grandfather he was. One of his greatest accomplishments, I’m sure, was the respect and admiration his family had for him.

He was a lousy politician but a decent human being. Il Douche will never achieve a fraction of what Bush did.

Well, he never DID have a record number of indictments, guilty pleas, and prison terms among his close friends, allies and sycophants, either.
