The organizer of the ‘Stop the Steal’ rally that led up to the Capitol riot said he will comply with a congressional subpoena because he doesn’t have ‘money to spend on legal bills’

“Stop the Steal” organizer Ali Alexander said on Saturday that he will not challenge his congressional subpoena.

He received the subpoena from the January 6 Select Committee, a House group charged with investigating the Capitol riot.

“The only reason I’m going is because I don’t want to go to jail,” Alexander said in a Telegram message.

Ali Alexander, the organizer behind the “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington, DC, said he will comply with a congressional subpoena over his role in the Capitol riot on January 6.

The rally was where then President Donald Trump spoke before a crowd of his supporters. The rally led up to the siege on the Capitol, which left five people, including one police officer, dead.

He said he wouldn’t challenge the subpoena because he doesn’t have “money to spend on legal bills.”

“The only reason I’m going is because I don’t want to go to jail,” he said. “So under the threat of imprisonment and spending tens and tens and tens of thousands of dollars on lawyers, I will be privately deposed before this committee in December.”

So far, at least 702 people have been charged in relation to the riot.

In February, CNN reported that FBI affidavits and court documents showed insurrectionists scrambled to delete photos and social-media posts proving their participation in the Capitol riot. Some reportedly broke their cellphones, scrubbed their social-media accounts, and tried to wipe hard drives that might contain photos and other proof of their involvement, CNN reported.

Michael Cohen Says Prosecutors ‘Are Going After Donald, Don Jr., Eric, and Ivanka’

“I truly believe that [prosecutors] can indict Donald Trump tomorrow if they really wanted, and be successful,” Trump’s former personal attorney said of New York law enforcement’s investigation of the Trump Organization

“They committed crimes,” Michael Cohen, former personal attorney to Donald Trump, said of the Trump Organization, adding, “I can assure you that Donald Trump is guilty of his own crimes.”

But prosecutors aren’t just focused on Trump, Cohen said, “They are going after Donald, Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka.”

Appearing on Meet the Press on Sunday, Cohen discussed the ongoing case against the Trump Organization as New York law enforcement examines the company’s finances. According to Cohen, Trump often fraudulently inflated the worth of his assets to get better financing deals — something Cohen admitted he helped him do.

“Was I involved in much of the inflation and deflation of his assets? The answer to that is yes,” Cohen told host Chuck Todd.

Cohen said that he tries to be careful discussing the case because he doesn’t want to “tip off Trump or the Trump Organization’s people about what is actually happening.” But, he said, the Manhattan district attorney and New York attorney general’s joint investigation doesn’t stop at Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization’s longtime CFO who was recently charged with 15 counts of financial crimes — including falsifying business records and federal tax fraud. Prosecutors have their sights set on bigger targets: Trump and his children.

“Allen Weisselberg is not the key to this,” Cohen said. “They are going after Donald, they’re going after Don Jr, Eric, Ivanka, a whole slew of individuals. Family, you know, family as well.”

Proud Boys terrorize Small Business Saturday shoppers on Long Island

About 20 members of the far-right Proud Boys militia group marched Saturday on Long Island — flashing white power signs, entering stores and shouting slogans.

Judy Griffin, a Democrat who represents Long Island in the New York State Assembly, said the Proud Boys did not have permits for the march and didn’t give the village notice about it, adding that the event seemed intended to disrupt Small Business Saturday.

“They’re a divisive group of hate and violence,” Griffin said. “They don’t have any place here. I’m all for freedom of speech, but this group doesn’t have a very good track record and seem to come to communities to incite problems and polarize.”

Democratic state Sen. Todd Kaminsky posted video from the march on Twitter, writing: “The Neo-fascist Proud Boys marched through Rockville Centre today, close to my office. I think the latest elections emboldened them-I don’t remember this happening before. I will not be silent. Their hatred has no place here-this is not the Nassau I know. Who else will speak up?”

Rockville Centre Mayor Francis X. Murray, a Republican, told Newsday he didn’t know who the Proud Boys were, and declined to comment on the march.
